Stock, maybe... but for a tiny bit of effort (exhaust work) and a tune (all cost me less than $2k) I was well above the torque and power of the 3.6L. I only had an e-tune, but supposedly it generates 305hp/350tq after that. I know for sure the torque was there, because you could feel it... and it’s more than my

Used Jetta 2.5SE? Just got a 2013 for my wife, and it’s wonderful. 5 speed trans, 2.5L NA motor with 170hp. Not very powerful in a straight line, but handling is wonderful. It came with leather, sunroof, heated seats, touchscreen... all for under $15k (under 30k miles).

Agreed. The old GT (2.5 turbo) was SO much better - I had mine for 26k.

I’ll buy the “not all CEOs” argument, simply because I think we’re getting off track. The original statement that I disputed was that a CEO’s career is “over” because of screwing up a company. I simply state this is not the case and provided examples of such. I contend that I don’t know of any high-level CEO (of those

The reason I think the shareholder suits are not effective is because the CEO is still not being held liable/responsible. In the GM case, GM is settling and protecting the CEO from harm (financial, in this case)... unless you can show me that the CEO chipped-in to pay the settlement? This is what happens in most cases

Excellent, and thank you for those references. However, note that these are shareholder cases against the misrepresenations they made during their tenure... not cases against the ignition issue, for example.

I’d love to see your examples of when this has happened, because I haven’t seen it yet, to-date. Please do show me your evidence...

I know about the locomotive d-h systems... just haven’t seen it in a car. Glad to hear SOMEONE is doing it, but the question still stands - why aren’t more people doing it? Pretty much everyone has hybrids... but they’re usually gasoline... and these same makers usually have diesel engines already, too.

Exactly... consistent throttle and load are far easier to control for, and give you better efficiency and emissions. It’s one reason CVT is a good idea, as well. Bottom line is that motors are most efficient in narrow ranges... so just keeping them there is a good idea.

I thought the “late eating” warning was debunked... ie, it doesn’t matter if you eat late (from a dieting perspective). Certainly, if such activity gives you heartburn or whatever, then be wary of that... but otherwise it seems fine. Anecdotally, in my case, I sleep better on a full stomach (I get less heartburn)...

Career basically over? Did you already forget the ignition scandal at GM? Dan Ackerson (who was paid almost 2x of Barra) was paid 2x what she is (http://thinkprogress.org/economy/2014/0…), and he’s the one that should be held responsible for the ignition scandal, yet he gets off scot-free (and likely with plenty of

Also because, historically, their cars tended to be appliances... no feedback, no fun, no connection to the road. I actually had a friend who cross-shopped Audi, BMW, Merc and finally settled on a Camry Hybrid because it was so disconnected from the road. I drove it and I really didn’t know if the thing was on, or if

A piece of rubber glove works for this as well... and can be used on screwdriver tips and socket-head screws, too...

I test-drove an Evo back in 2005... it was bone-jarringly awful on regular roads. I’m no fan of Civics, but even I would choose the Honda over the Evo for this reason alone. (I ended up buying a Legacy GT instead, since a Civic is just... awful... in it’s own boring way.)

True, some tracks may require it, but I figure instead of using intake restrictors, force them to use mufflers... which serve to restrict and silence (instead of just restrict). If higher end racing takes to this, it would allow racing to be more acceptable to the neighbors and spectators.

Actually, this got me wondering on another related issue - race tracks. Most people living near them are annoyed by them, due to the noise. What I wonder is - why can’t they force race cars to run with exhaust systems? The old story used to be “for power” but now that many races run with restrictor plates and such,

So the FSM religion (based on satire) is not ok, but then Scientology (based on a fictional book) is ok and gets all sorts of tax breaks and such, too? Yeah, that sounds reasonable /s

Agreed - we bought this printer from a positive review on The Wirecutter. I’ve always been a fan of HP printers in general, as they have never let me down. The 8600 we have now has been great - duplex printing and ADF is great, and still works wonderfully. I love the scan-to-computer feature too. Overall, a great

Agreed. Either it’s science and can be proven, or it’s not. There is no grey area there. Natural “science” is total BS because it cannot be proven to work. Since it’s not science, it’s not medically sound... period.

A radar detector is not magic or anything like that... it is a tool. Like any tool, if you don’t know how to use it properly/well and how to use it best for your area, then it won’t work well for you.
