It is anecdotal evidence but the association of going to a church and him cosigning some member’s of that church’s messed up beliefs are equally off base. The reality of hollywood is that he is probably working with far more queer people on a daily basis than he would ever meet with someone who supports conversion

i’ve never really understood this critique of him? Are there many churches who’s stances on LGBTQ+ people are not super behind the times? Is he the only actor in hollywood who goes to church? Because going to church and cosigning all the backwards beliefs of christianity are two very different things, and pretending

Typically Waititi gets the emotional stuff right in his movies, and Portman can obviously be good when she has something to work with. If this really is “an emotionally mature Marvel movie” then I will be pretty happy, I think. My fear with her is when she doesn’t have much to work with she really phones it in hard.

I think this is the right mindset to go into this season. The episode in season 2 with Maeve’s backstory and how it’s tied to the native warrior was probably the series highlight for me. Unfortunately they completely botched it next episode by making her daughter not actually her daughter and giving her a new mother,

I feel the same way of being let down by most of the marvel stuff since the pandemic, and have similar hope for this and GotG 3, but I feel like these expectations are going to backfire when I want this movie to be more than it is. I love Waititi but I think there is as high of a chance that this is good as it is bad.

I have very conflicting feelings about this show, but I don’t think I can watch it anymore after last season. The dialogue, acting, and visuals are all so top notch it’s hard not to be intrigued. I just don’t think they’ve really told a coherent story in any season, and it’s only gotten more convoluted as they go. I

There is no way they were the first ones to do this. They did get famous for it though.

I think you missed the point of Donald Glover’s episode, but also I hate to break it to you but there are a lot of well off white people who dont interact with people of color in New York (and everywhere else)

She never went easy on her characters and the show is 100% better for it. Hacks and Fleabag have had similar success but with easing up on the ugliness (to mostly great effect, I love both those shows) but Girls will always claim the top spot in my heart.

This is too scary for me to watch the actual movie but as far as wtf moments go that was suitably wtf...

Yeah it’s interesting that the opposite critique is used for super hero movies. I get that there are shades of gray and this film probably is frustrating in some way, but still kind of frustrating

I haven’t watched that movie since it came out, and I was very young, but I loved it at the time. Even in my fond memories its pretty schlocky though, but in a good way.

Arrival is one of my favorite movies of all time, but I don’t think it would qualify as a high performing blockbuster (nor would any of his follow ups, which I also love.) Interstellar is made by one of the most beloved filmmakers currently working, and Gravity was a adrenaline thrill ride set in space. I am not

I will say it’s still an imperfect movie, but at the very least you can tell they had a ton of fun pushing the concepts and the technology. As for as corporate-mandatedlegecyquels’ go this is one of the more inventive ones in my book

I guess it depends on your feelings about the mandolorian, but I was generally unimpressed. Terrible acting, writing, characters, plots, etc. Grogu is cute and the show does have nice production value though.

I think the answer is actually a little bit simpler. Sci-fi movies that aren’t star wars don’t typically do as well as most blockbusters unless they’re really funny (eg: Guardians of the Galaxy), and people are so primed for movies to be on streaming a few weeks after release that less people are probably going to

There were weirdly a LOT of parallels between those two movies, with two scenes in particular that made me wonder if someone leaked story details to someone else. Both really fun movies, but Lightyear was better by a huge margin.

It took me about 5 mins to get behind the concept of the movie. Compared to the absolute hogshit that is every single Disney+ Star Wars show, this is a god damn masterpiece (and not even close to one of pixar’s best.)

This is not a spoiler, but the same sex couple in this movie is such a small thing. I barely even tracked it. It’s more of a “oh, nice.” kinda thing. It’s sweetly done but like all pixar romances, the movie doesn’t harp on it or anything

Interesting that all 3 of these movies are retreads of franchises that were at their peak in the 90s...
