This is honestly mind blowing. I wonder how they almost all decided to be 6 episodes... I’ve said this a lot but most of these shows start to stumble with their internal logic/pacing at episode 3 which seems to me due to narrative constraints. I wonder whats going on at marvel right now.

I never thought I would be arguing for longer run times on streaming shows, but I hope the success of Stranger Things really utilizing more episodes and longer run times is a good lesson for disney with these shows. If you’re going to try and do so much in a 6 episode season, there have to be some longer episodes,

I personally think marvel has just had a real run of stinkers lately, and the fact that the shows usually fall off about half way through has to be a factor in this. I think we might be hitting the marvel tipping point

This is a show I feel like I should love but have never been able to make it past like, episode 7. I can appreciate it for what it is, but something about the disney tv animation formula never grabs me (same goes for Amphibilia and Owl House, the one outlier being pickle and peanut, which is great.)

Yeah, for instance John Wick was made by someone who came from these type of pulp genre films that everyone loves to throw under the bus. I love that MCU movies include how many people worked on them cuz they really are keeping the whole industry paid and moving forward, with even scorsese using de-aging technology.

The way they are flooding the market with MCU shit pretty much guarantees some sort of actual backlash, but depending on the next few high profile releases, this may take a little longer than we expect

EEAAO will be hard to beat as film of the year for me (and possibly of the decade), but I do think it complicates the equation that this movie was exec produced by the Russo Brothers and as insane and talented as Daniels are, the movie couldn’t have existed in the way it does without the MCU

Now these movies are made by HBO as limited series instead of movies, and are just as good or better than they were back then in my opinion

At the very least they must have had some meetings. Duffer Bros and Bill Hader/Alec Berg for MCU phase 5

I’m kinda surprised more people aren’t commenting on this. I like basically every character so it’s not a huge deal, but most of the emotional reveals were really on the nose. And all three romance moments getting interrupted was an interesting choice to say the least. I’m curious to go back and see if it’s episodes

It is very rare when a streaming show has too much plot (not to mention that is actually interesting, with great character moments). I hope season 5 continues this hot streak

That was a really great blink and you miss it moment. So gnarly.

Maybe it’s just cuz I’m a filthy casual but it seems like it would be useful information to put which platforms these games are available on

This is fair but execs aren’t writers and I think on some level it is hard to tell a decent script from a mediocre script. The writing, acting, and occasionally directing on so much of this stuff is so sub par.

Yeah they’re just making too much stuff. I wish they would’ve spent the last 5 years getting a handful top tier writers from Marvel Comics to write Star Wars comics and they could just adapt the best ones.

That to me is a creative failure of the writers and directors of these movies. Of course the execs and producers do shoulder some of that blame, but I don’t know if it was JJ who said ‘what if Palpatine was Rey’s father?’ but when youre the director and carry the sway that he does, the buck absolutely stops with him.

I actually agree with you. Organized religion at basically any level is complicit in continuing this kind of mindset. My confusion is why it’s pointed at him. I don’t honestly care about Pratt at all either. He lives an objectively amazing life, but surely he isnt the only actor that goes to a big church, right? Maybe

If they wanted to stretch one movie into 6 hours, why didn’t they just adapt the triligy into 6 episodes? Each episode is a two parter? Or at the least combine 2 of those stories so it’s a little less tepid.

I dont hate the movie and there is some fun stuff but I would say it was pretty dumb. Especially when compared to a movie like “Lightyear” which exists for a very similar corporate mandated - IP based reason. “Lightyear” wasnt perfect by any stretch but they sure as hell added some emotion behind “To Infinity and

Kathleen Kennedy is greenlighting scripts that are not screen ready, but the mistakes they keep making with Star Wars does not seem to be at an executive level. The film making and writing (and acting with a few exceptions) is embarrassingly sloppy and not up to the standard of any half way decent IP. Everytime I try
