I'm not really into tactical games myself. Definitely check out Darkest Dungeon. The game focuses on simplicity. All of the characters abilities are fairly similar, so you don't have to worry about not knowing how to master them. And it's pretty easy to see where synergies are possible. Also, all the information you

I'm mightily relieved to find the same functionality in Metal Gear Solid V. It's crazy whenever a game doesn't let you do it. Unless I'm watching a football game (and even then…) I expect to be able to pause what I am doing now to deal with emerging situations around the house.

It's a weird time. I have fond memories of playing Spelunky at 3:00 while doing my "go back to sleep" dance with my infant slung into a baby bjorn.

Final fantasy is the perfect type of game for when you have a newborn. Basically any game that doesn't need a lot of input and you can put down at a moments notice is ideal. Any game that requires perfect reaction times, on the other hand…

After a busy couple of months within a busy year, I have finally managed to carve out some time to check out some new video games. I'm definitely enjoying Darkest Dungeon, which I'm playing on my PSP. It's definitely a PC game that's not tailor-built for the PSP, but now that I'm used to it, it's a great game to play

Have you tried adjusting your distance to the screen? There are some games that give me motion sickness when I play on my laptop but are perfectly fine when I play them on the TV.

I always felt it was less about being fake than about being a placeholder for whenever they got their act together and finally got some real ads.

Remember when the AV Club's primary advertising was for the Visor-ganizer, the visor with storage space for keys and credit cards?

I liked what he wrote. It gave me a whole new understanding on the visual language of film-making. And it was effortlessly entertaining, too. RIP.

I read and enjoyed the whole thing without before seeing who the author was. Great job!

Yea, that was delightful. And I would love the opportunity to grouse on or glorify the many commercials about which I have strong opinions.

Agreed. They remind me of the looser, more rambling past of AV Club yore.

I mean, I think Lovecraft's writing is pretty great, and I've read pretty much all his stories, but I mostly agree with you. He is certainly the most racist author I've ever read. And the racism bleeds into the substance of the stories in a lot of cases. I mean, he hates a lot of rural white people too, but his hatred

"Starring" Guy Pearce, but Robert Carlyle was the main reason to watch that movie.

C'mon… nothing happens in December.

Yea, there should have been a comeuppance moment afterwards. Instead he gets rewarded. But I don't think that the book is closed on how John's "heroism" affects others. I suspect that the time will come when we are begging for a less noble ruler. You're just ahead of the curve on that one.

I strongly got the impression that the show was emphasizing his utter stupidity in doing that. The whole battle seemed to reinforce one of the overarching themes of the show: guileless idealism is not only ineffective, but dangerous. It's no accident that he was rescued by the most corrupt character in the show.

Ah ok. Yea, I just love the faux-ambiguity. Like, if you are gonna specify the decade, why shy away from the year?

Am I crazy? I'm pretty sure that Mega Man 2 (or was it 3?) was set in the 199X. So basically "at some point during the next decade."
Then again, when a game comes out in the 80s and is set in the future, I guess there is no difference between 199X and 19XX. Except that it possibly could take place in the 80s.

Shadow Complex is the best 360 exclusive in my opinion. The look is great. The gameplay is solid. There's a bunch of varied terrain to traverse and it's fun doing so. Most of all, though, I love the crazy craziness that is the foam gun.
