Somewhat tangential, but I have been reading JG Ballard's High-Rise and remarking how many games seem to draw off its vision of a society rapidly falling apart. Starting with System Shock, but also including Bioshock, Dead Space, and Alien Isolation, the vision of a consumerist landscape that devolves into petty gangs

Nice. Bon Courage!

Are you still working on them? At some point I burned out and haven't returned. But I keep meaning to.

Great point. I have played the shit out of the original Mega Man series, but every new MMX game I play is an upward struggle of actively trying to break the game in.

It is a Mega Man game at the end of the day. I've made my peace with all the innovations that the Mega Man series made along the way, and it's pretty consistent with those. Absorbing the enemies is pretty optional and works ok. As a central mechanic, I enjoy it a whole lot more than whatever was going on with Gunvolt.

Yea, for sure. I love some of the design choices of Mega Man 6-8, for instance, but their bland level design holds them back. I wish that I could play a Mega Man game with the Super Adaptor but with more care put into the challenges and obstacles. Playing around with Mario Maker really exposed to me how much of a gulf

Yea, my biggest problem with the game was that it's boring. I have to put this down to a lack of polish. What's remarkable about the golden era Mega Man games is that they still hold up today. This speaks to the amount of time that was spent in memorable level design and smooth controls. (By contrast, the original

I was looking forward to it! Well, I don't really follow upcoming releases, but I still had some level of hype left over from when GLOG Classic announced it back in 2013: http://gameological.com/201…
When I saw that it had been released, I picked it up without doing any due diligence. Woe it me! What sagas I have

Didn't know that! That's a crucial detail for someone who looms so large.

Again, yea, power talks and the important thing (as with the notion that the imperial seat was vacant) is that a plausible claim to the throne be pressed by someone who could simply crush anyone who disputed it.

I'm generally inclined to be generous with the boat travel, since it is a lot faster than horse/walking travel. But yea, that way way too far.

Yea, power talks and she's just the last one standing. Being ready to seize the throne counts for a lot in terms of getting it. I don't have any statistics to back this up, but my gut feeling from reading a lot of middle ages history is that 1 out of every 3 successions that takes place is "illegal". Often it is a

Haha, accurate!

God I loved that scene. Straight out of Gilliam's "Brazil", as I'm sure was intended. And the suspiciously sword-shaped package was just the cutest.

Agreed. Those first 20 minutes were absolutely riveting, even when I knew, more or less, what was going to happen. And the rest of the episode was littered with conclusions and climaxes. Very satisfying. (Also, I'm a sucker for highly stylized directing).

Great comments, everyone!

From a dramatic perspective, it would be a shame to off her now. I loved the conversation she had with Jon. But if her angst is going to be all pursed-lips and staring at things, I won't stand in Davos' way.

Great Job, Sponsored Post!

And not a moment too soon. I have reached my limit with her constant attempts at a Donald Trump pursed-lips duckface impression.

Just join for the week - it's easy! I don't use it much, but I'm @McFierce_Ham. All of the people I follow are GLOG so you can just raid that list to get started.
