I just watched the Hawaii Christmas movie with Lea Michele that aired last night (ABC? Fox? I forget)

Right, I had almost forgotten about that but it’s a huge thing -- there are multiple points in the books where for example someone grabs Pantalaimon. They’re not even hurting him necessarily, but just the act of another human holding Lyra’s daemon is intensely upsetting and painful for her.

Really? I feel like there’s a different nuance between ?! and !?

Yup. In the US for whatever reason, it’s only published with both “parts” in one volume.

Haha, that’s amazing. I totally remember Accelerated Reading and those quizzes!! In 3rd grade, for whatever reason, I decided I was going to spend the entire year reading ONLY the AR books, I refused to read anything that didn’t have that little yellow dot on the spine (that’s how they were marked in our school

You have to also remember though, that Ancient Egypt spans an absolutely enormous range of history— 3000 years from its formation until it was absorbed into the Roman empire.

He is such a sweetie, he’s one of my favorites. I’ve met him in person once, too. talked for a few minutes, and he was so nice!

All I remember about Wintergreen life savers is trying to make them spark, like on campouts and stuff. (Other people remember this, right??)

Also, it’s Tonko House, not Tonka.

My one true king.

Yup, also she SHOWED them her hotel key so it was obvious that she was a guest of the hotel.

Omg that sounds ...

Huh, that’s interesting! I was assuming Hokkaido style too, but I don’t think I’ve ever seen deep fried stuff as toppings for it. More like grilled chicken and things like that. But maybe I just never noticed, or it wasn’t an option at the places I happened to go to.

That’s regular Japanese curry, soup curry is more like actual soup consistency, like this:

That’s horrible. I always thought it was illegal for cops to shoot someone solely in order to stop them from running away (ie when they’re not actively pointing a weapon at someone, etc). But maybe that’s only in some states?

I’m kind of skeptical of this though... I mean, I’ve had soup curry with non-fried chicken, and non-soup curry with fried chicken, but I’m actually really not sure how fried chicken soup curry would work. Wouldn’t the breading get soggy too quickly?

That’s true, but I think it’s not such a big deal in private. Like, you see the decorations everywhere but people don’t typically get a Christmas tree, or decorate their own houses, and often they don’t even exchange presents on Christmas day. So outside of the public aspect of it, I think it’s fair to say that it

If you’re having a Japanese Christmas, then ideally it should also involve a fancy date night dinner on Christmas Eve!

It could be. I had the exact same reaction to that Aladdin ad, too -- which fwiw did not feel off when I saw it in the actual film. So that’s maybe another support to the argument here that the movie itself is better than the impressions judging from the commercials.

Notice how the troll, busy screaming at everyone else who replied to him, about their “rage” and “incoherent” arguments, pretends he hasn’t noticed your comment.
