Modern is the dark horse candidate for those truly in the know!

Pepe’s AND Sally’s?! Come on, pick a side man!

Yeah I went pretty much every year too, always watch the parade, wander around, and then go to the annual Rocky Horror performance!

Soooooo is it sad that I saw the background of your first pic and immediately thought “hey, that looks like Kawasaki.....”

Did you ever see that Zumbo’s show on Netflix? One of the episodes, the elimination challenge, they had to make this tower of profiteroles... thing...

Yeah I was wondering about that too! But then I would have expected to see other scenes of him playing the game still, like when he was locked in his room.... Tho I dunno, maybe I’m not giving them enough credit and they’re purposefully keeping the connection more subtle like that.

Story time! Back when I was a student, my friends and I, being dirt poor (see: student) would often hit up the conbini at just sit outside in a park drinking and hanging out (I say “park” but it was basically a glorified road divider, a paved area about 25 feet wide that extended down the street, with some benches

I figure in an instance like that it would technically be theft right? Though such a small amount that practically speaking, you’re right and it probably wouldn’t be worth actually pursuing anything.

They call the cops probably?

Yeah my reaction was to side-eye this dude at first, but then when I read that this also applies to water/tea.....

Hooooooly crap. Thanks, now I can never un-read that.

Also russian roulette sushi with the cucumber rolls where one of them is actually stuffed with wasabi instead. It’s a pretty common drinking game ;-p

Russian roulette food is kind of a Thing in Japan so I’m really not surprised tbh

Yup, and also on the ice-cold front, most of the places I’ve been in Thailand they serve the beer over ice! Definitely nothing better in that situation.

Re: South--- fried chicken, or chicken salad!

That was my thought too. By the time that show was seriously getting off the ground in terms of potential production, she had already done Big Little Lies, that Netflix thing, and Detective Pikachu was announced at that point too.

There are a lot of words like that in Malaysia. For example, coffee is “kopi” so for a super sweet iced coffee drink, if you want to show that you’re not just some dumb tourist, you order a “kopi ice.”

Aww, Faulkner’s handwriting gives me such nostalgic flashbacks! This was my major in college (though I went on to not actually do anything remotely related to it). I still have my beat-up volume of Gardiner in storage somewhere... By the end of the 4 years the cover was starting to come off, haha.

Reminds me of the BS appearance rules at most high schools in Japan— they’re incredibly strict about no dyed hair, etc. Which in multiple cases has resulted in the absolutely inane situation of the school telling kids whose hair is NATURALLY light brown (or god forbid, blonde) that they have to dye it dark because

Oh they’ve already done the Matt Lauer episode! (Well, I guess technically it was a Roger Ailes-inspired episode, but still.)
