Yeah, that was my take, too. He’s incredibly proud of what he’s done—and trying to make it approachable to everyone—and when these other shows come around to capitalize on his success by pushing a false narrative, he’s going to call them out on it.

Agreed.  Even ignoring the outright staging of things on other “survival” shows, even if it’s “real”, if you still have a cameraman or film crew following you, it entirely changes the mental aspect of things.  I always thought about how much harder he had to work just to make the show visually interesting... setting…

He has always been that way about other “survival” shows and I can understand why. All of the other shows are incredibly fake/staged whereas his were legit. I would probably be pretty annoyed if I had to deal with people comparing me to a bunch of fakers too.

I loved the whole podcast; particularly Stroud’s internal reflections on boredom and loneliness stark and fascinating.

Having been the gf that left a guy like BaE, I’m pretty sure she tried to communicate what was wrong tons of times before she left. I know I did. Yet, my BaE ex never listened to me once about any of the concerns I had, never did anything about them when we were together, and he still tells anyone who will listen that…

BaE reads like he wants the chance to break up with her. The comments about how the tables have turned with him being out of her league (to, what, her being out of his league?), and how he needs to confirm he’s out of love with her. I think it’s less about closure, and more about being the one who got dumped.
