So it’s a JRPG, full of the typical JRPG bullshit that always, always weighs them down. I feel like “beautiful visuals and good combat system with a bland and trite story tacked onto them, filled with characters I don’t care about” describes like 90% of the entire genre.

Both Nintendo and Square-enix have precedents of overestimating how long it takes people to finish their games.

You didn’t mention that the Remoraid—>Octillery evolutionary line used to make a lot more sense, because Octillery had more of a military/tank theme to it, and also Remoraid was based on AN ACTUAL GUN.
