So they can’t sell the NFTs.

“And again and again, why would they bother creating their own marketplace”

Pretty much. This isn’t a new thing; cases regarding this have come up before. Gaylord v US is a case where the USPS licensed a photo of a sculpture called The Column, part of the Korean War Memorial. The sculpture itself was not licensed, and Gaylord, the sculptor, sued. He prevailed.

“I don’t see how this is Tesla’s responsibility.”

“but let’s imagine for a second that actual games are sold as NFTs.”

“What’s the reason NOT to use a blockchain though?”

“They’re taking advantage of whales and the occasional one off purchaser out there. Why wouldn’t they? They’re a business.”

“NFT’s for videogame items only really make sense for items that could be used across different games, and arguably more specifically publishers.”

Literally nothing about that would require it to be an NFT. They could do that right now, within their games, without any kind of blockchain.

“Why are you clinging to this belief that they can’t make money off resales?”

“It makes zero sense to me that this makes zero sense to you.”

“i don’t play enough modern video games to understand what you’re talking about,”

And the quoted sentence was talking about a speculative future version of this Quartz system that would expand it to all in-game items - LITERALLY not something this existing ToS would apply to.”

Yes, far more than you have, apparently. You claim that they would allow 3rd party sales of NFTs, without any proof, and despite the fact that all of their terms point to the idea that no, they don’t want you to do that. Further, for them to make money off resales, all they have to do is force you to go through their

If they’re not cheaper, then why am I not buying it from Ubisoft, where they get all of the money? Further, you’re assuming that they are allowing 3rd party marketplaces, which makes absolutely zero sense.

“Decentralization and the ability to buy/sell digital products on secondary markets could be revolutionary and pro-consumer.”

Except Ubisoft doesn’t want you to do that. They don’t allow it, and they’d be fools to do so, as it would mean they don’t get any cut of the sales if they had just done a normal marketplace.

When Ubisoft starts selling their digital game licenses as NFTs, and thus allows me to resell them, then I’ll pay attention. Until then, it’s just another scam.

No. The only way to do that is like how Blizzard tried to do it with the Diablo 3 Auction House (something they were able to do without blockchain bs, by the way). In order to make there be an actual, worthwhile market for in game items, they had to make those items extremely rare, meaning that the game was worse for

No. It wouldn’t. And there is literally nothing about that scenario that requires a blockchain to do it.
