Okay but the court is not saying he’s mentally ill and therefore getting a lighter sentence because of it. It’s common practice for any defendant to enlist a psychiatrist as part of their legal defense. It’s not like the judge is saying... “oh, he’s white and mentally ill...let’s give him a light sentence.”
