I’m (mostly) recovered from my various ailments, I’m (over 50%) unpacked in my new place, so it’s time to get to it. I’m also posting to motivate myself to do a couple of these, because I’m hitting a wall in my activism. So let’s be active together!
This week I’m drawing from the Americans of Conscience checklist. It’s a great newsletter, with concrete actions and inspiring words of hope. If you’re not subscribed, I really suggest you sign up. Jen Hoffman, the woman that puts together, always captures how I’m feeling and her inspiring messages truly do inspire.
The week of June 24, Congress is voting on a bill that will provide additional funding for the Department of Homeland Security, which includes funding for ICE and CPB. As far as I know this bill has bipartisan support, so it’s important not to assume your dem congressperson feels the same way you do, and it’s…
A few weeks back someone mentioned that they felt like there weren’t as many marches, etc. Well, get ready to march! There’s an Impeachment March tomorrow. You can go to http://impeach.org to find the one closest to you.
This semester can’t end fast enough.
I live in an apartment. There is at least one (and possibly two) dog who seems to be left home alone all day, and there is a lot of barking. That lasts for hours. I am sympathetic to some amount of barking, but also, I am home most of the day, and it is very distracting and distressing to hear a dog barking for…
I have encountered an issue with my class that I’m hoping the more experienced educators can help me with.
While I enjoy a good mocha drink, my morning beverage of choice is black tea with milk and sugar (or homemade decaf cold brew, but it’s not cold brew season yet). As the parenthetical implies, my tea is also decaf (although I used to drink caffeinated). I’m about to run out of my TJ’s Decaf Irish Breakfast, but when…
Alex Trebek was diagnosed with Stage 4 pancreatic cancer today. Despite him being a total raging asshole sometimes, I could not imagine being on Jeopardy with someone else as a host. I’m truly saddened by this news.
(I thought I posted this earlier, but it appears to have disappeared to the ether. I’m sure that by reposting it will show up.)
I know there’s a lot of craziness going on in the world, but I wanted to do an AMA in case there were questions about my experience. Overall, it was pretty amazing, and I’d do it again in a heartbeat. Of course I’m disappointed in the way that I lost, but the buzzer and categories were not on my side. And I wasn’t…
I think the headline pretty much says it all. Wednesday January 23 is the air date. There may or may not be more; I cannot say.
Today my cousin turns 20! For the past I don’t know how many years, I like to post a song to facebook about turning the age that she is turning. 20 has proven tricky (actually, the past few years have been tricky). Does anyone have any good songs that are about being 20, turning 20, mention the age 20?
I am in need of recommendations.
I can’t really say much beyond that I taped today, it was fun, and that it will air in late January!
1. My Tuesdays are super-busy, so I like to use the Instant Pot slow cooker function for dinners. What are your favorite easy, IP slow cooker recipes? I feel like most IP recipes are pressure cooker ones. Bonus points for: vegetarian, low carb, minimal chopping. Also, my husband doesn’t eat pork.
Slate published an article about the New American Songbook. I can’t say I disagree with too much of it, although I agree that ranking Empire State of Mind so high (or even putting it on the list at all) speaks to the myopia of New Yorkers. I also think that the inclusion of the Liz Phair song is optimistic. If it’s…
I know there are a lot of crafty people here. I got a t-shirt the other day that I really want to love. It’s a unisex shirt, though, so it’s a little weirdly shaped. Does anyone have any good ways to make it less boxy? I think part of the problem may also be the fabric, and I think there’s less I can do about that.
I realized I didn’t give an update on what happened! I ended up losing the alternate coin toss, so didn’t make it on the show for the episodes taped Wednesday. That means that they will reschedule me for a later date, at which point I’ll definitely get on.
So, as I’ve mentioned, I am going to be a contestant on Jeopardy this season. Tomorrow is the big day! Well, maybe. Since I live in Los Angeles, I’m an alternate, so there is a 50-50 chance I will film tomorrow. If not, then another day.
