I was wondering the same thing. Bojack’s episode 11 fuckups were always compellingly presented as him doing terrible things for understandable reasons which we could trace back over the course of the season, making us understand both the reason and the effect of what he did. but there’s no deep-seated character reason…

the new Alkaline Trio is fantastic front to back, it’s really stunning. though fair warning, there’s only one politically motivated song and it’s still pretty vague lyrically, so I wouldn’t call that aspect a selling point for the album

An artist can save their career by selling out all the things that made them good, it happens all the time. Recovery sold extremely well I’m sure, doesn’t change the fact that it’s watered-down tripe.

I definitely don’t think he’s been awful the whole time, though even at his best he had a great flow disguising the fact that he can’t really write lyrics or have anything all that engaging to actually say. Once he gave up the bassy 90s beats and started trend-hopping it was all downhill, and the last 10 or so years…

Some of that first wave of Slendy YouTube series - I’m mostly thinking of the first season of Marble Hornets and EverymanHYBRID - were really great too. It’s a shame every good concept on YouTube has to get beaten to death with oversaturation
