While all of Subaru’s AWD systems share the symmetrical layout, how each one functions is pretty different. This site breaks down the differences:
This is as may be. For the most part, they are equally good systems for most circumstances.
At least in the case of my former 2005 forester xt manual, the center Tcase was a viscous coupler and the rear was also a viscous LSD. In the case of the CVT models, there are electrically actually clutch packs that lock and unlock. It actually not unlike the Haldex, with the exception that the Subaru system is…
The Edge Sport already has this drive train, so it was a no brainer to port it over into the lighter sedan. My neighbors bought an Edge Sport only because the next trim down felt too weak for the car. (It may be worth noting he was trading down from an Avalanche with the 6.2L V8.)
Theoretically a three-clutch box could have next two higher gears selected to skip gears, for fuel economy perhaps?
DCT computers pre-select higher or lower gears on the next cog depending on the vehicle conditions, eg: decellerating, accelerating, high speed or commute.
It sounds like the second and third clutches have the next higher and next lower gear already selected. With a dual clutch, only the next higher or the next lower gear is selected.
Well researched. Well written. If your out of the job next week you should send this to Algaezeera. They’d love it.
As an Engineer it annoys the hell out of me to see people use the word dampening when referring to dampers. Especially someone who makes a living writing about cars.
This car seriously had all the makings of a Nissan 370Z, Ford Mustang and Chevrolet Camaro, Infiniti G37, etc competitor. If you only look at the spec sheet, this car had everything it needed... but...
No, they’ll start dumping their larger SUVs for smaller SUVs.
The Taurus SHO is also disappointing because it weighs as much as a goddamn Brink’s armored truck.
2006, I couldn’t drive ten miles without seeing a High School Junior / Senior in one of these.
We are going to find out this is a PR stunt in 3... 2... 1...
This story sounds familiar. Except this guy took his own walking papers instead of being given them. With no explanation. For a site that used to be very open about it’s changes in the staff (bidding goodbye and welcoming) it’s been very quiet around here. The community will devolve the more you distance yourselves…
hopefully the spark plugs stay IN the engine this time.
This is cool and all, but what I want is a descent, affordable (sorry KTM) mid-size dual sport. The only bike like that now is the DRZ400. Give me a semi capable, preferably fuel injected, 400-500cc single or small twin for $5k-$8k and I’ll buy it tomorrow.
They both have 4 round things that connect it to the ground. I sense a lawsuit.
