Agreed I guess my point was mainly the “safe driving aspect” I feel as though the snow hoonage ability of these cars are normally not a big selling factor for 95% of the buyers but the subaru dealerships continue to preach the “our AWD is safer” message.

Neat! I didnt realize the autos and manuals were different. In that case the subie system seems pretty cool although i do think the haldex system is slowly marching closer and closer in terms of rwd torque capability if I’m not mistaken.

Yes but with the modern systems we are actually talking about milliseconds, have you driven a truely modern haldex or similar system? Also I think the newest haldex is something like 40:60 capable and realistically with all that weight over the front axle you shouldnt need to send more than 60 to the rear just my

I guess my question is how does it actually send 100% to the front or rear? what kind of differential or clutch based system is it using to do so? I thought the viscous was the center diff? I could be wrong but my old 2.5rs seemed to have a more or less open rear, if it was a viscous then I honestly think a modern abs

Does it actually adjust from 50:50 though? Is it a variable center diff without the DCCD system from the STI? Also the mpg benefit I think would go to the fwd based systems as they can normally benefit from running in fwd without the drivetrain loss of the rest of the awd system.

Why do people continue to insist that subaru AWD is “better” isnt it still open front and rear diffs? Sure haldex and like like used to be slow and crappy but honestly we are talking about milliseconds of reaction at this point.

Seems odd that they have ditched the ZF 8 speed auto in favor of the DSG? that was a great auto that im sure is much smoother than the DSG would be for your average entry level “luxury” buyer.

Dude check up on all the news, Ranger is being built in MI and is coming to the US its in the UAW contract that was signed in the spring.

True but I believe this all is a big shuffle of plants and capacity instead of building a new plant anywhere I believe they are actually maybe adding capacity in the US.

Haha yeah I forgot we gotta get our jimmies all rustled and help build the wall.

I was hoping for better from jalopnik instead of the nomal Fox news rampage..... Ford WILL be moving focus out, BUT and its a big but, they are moving ranger/bronco/ecosport production in YOU HAVE ALREADY COVERED THIS FACT it was reported when it was signed in the UAW contract. No jobs will be lost in the US.

Newsflash.... seems to be ignored in all this mess: Ford is moving small car production out so they can move ranger and ecosport production in. No jobs will be lost in the US.

Really? Detroit area here and most everyone i know has a set of snow tires with the exception of guys with trucks on ATs. Maybe its because 75% of my friend circle works in automotive?

Actually ford has been making 7000rpm DOHC v8s since 1991. They were making a (decent for the time) 300hp out of a 4.6.

Not sure it will really be THAT much slower in corners I think the 5.0 is less than 50lbs heavier than the 3.4.

Trust me it is no where near that simple. It is heavily load dependant aka if you are crusing up a hill at 2500rpm wot to maintain speed you are going to burn way more fuel than on flat ground with 10% pedal to maintain speed at 2500rpm.

What does the the motor being pushrod have anything to do with this? do you mean piston motor? because displacement is measure the same whether its pushrod or ohc....

Oh I understand the current dual clutch setup I was just trying to come up with the “reason” to go for a 3 clutch and thats the only one I can come up with, its to eliminate that 1% or whatever amount of the time when the wrong gear has been picked by the controller.

Thats my thoughts too, I guess the benefit is that it will always be ready with the gear whereas occasionally a dual clutch isnt (in super simplified terms). Just a guess though.

The amazing part is the backseat in my 15 mustang is actually LESS usable than my friends 14... its obviously not what they have in mind when designing the car because the target audience is a 50 year old with money to burn on a second car.
