They were listing commercial performance in response specifically to the idea of “fatigue”. Also, the “performant” ones they listed - Loki S2 and GotG 3 - were excellent and had a good critical reception too.

I think the media landscape has grown so much now that there aren’t really “universal” touchstones like there maybe used to be. Whatever this generation’s Animal House is, plenty of people won’t bother with it and won’t feel like they’re missing out.

For the remark to work, they’d need to be born since 2006 or so, unless there’s darker connotations implied.

Yep. All a creator has to do is say/produce something crass, provocative or suspect, say “whoopsie-doodle I hope I don’t get cancelled”, and the uncritical reactionary market will rally round them.
