Yeah, I figured that many of them weren’t, at least for chain/franchise type places, but didn’t want to assume all of them weren’t.

An 11-percent tip might sound stingy compared to the suggested 15-20 percent you’d tip at a full-service restaurant, but customers likely don’t equate the effort that goes into pouring a cup of coffee with the effort of waiting on a table for a full dinner.

Yes, I missed that announcement, thanks!

This list of myths supports my view that a lot of people who aren’t registered to vote are not victims of voter suppression and that increasing the ease of voter registration isn’t the panacea people make it out to be — literally half the myths are based on people trying to evade some other obligation or otherwise

Oh good, I hadn’t heard that.  Given how long they went since the last season and the change in show runners, I was worried they were just going to try to wrap the whole thing up.

I didn’t think it was mentioned when his brother died. If he died before the Nazi invasion of North America, there would probably be very little reason for them to be aware of Smith’s possible status as a carrier of the gene for muscular dystrophy given the likelihood of medical records being destroyed/lost in the

I’ve been forgetting Sewell is a Brit ever since Dark City! He’s like Christian Bale and Henry Cavill — when they are using their real accents they seem like they’re playing a role.

The longer trailer for this season really makes it feel like this is going to be the final season of the show. I’m hoping that’s a head fake, but I’m concerned that with a completely Spotnitz-less season, that’s where things are going — a big, happy Hollywood ending.

It’s really poorly phrased, but what I think they meant is avoiding becoming inured or indifferent to Nazi symbols. (That said, I’m not sure why anyone would think that would be a risk here — Nazis symbols are clearly associated with the bad guys/evil deeds on the show; you certainly can’t watch the show and claim

Yes, Sewell and Hiroyuki-Tagawa are kicking ass on the show. Hiroyuki-Tagawa in particular is delivering what is one of the all time greatest TV performances by an Asian-American actor, IMHO.

Why is that creature vomiting blood onto that poor lady’s shoulder?

“K-Byte” sounds like the name of a cheesy computer hacker/nerd-themed teen comedy from the 1980s.

Tipping started becoming a thing in the late 19th Century and really took off in the early 20th Century in the United States, IIRC.

If service weren’t dependent on tips, the customer might have to treat the server as an equal. Can you imagine the horror?

Wouldn’t solitaire really be individualist anarchist in the form of Sternerite egoism — it requires no one but yourself and only you can hold yourself accountable for playing by the rules?

+1 for shrimp tails being left on (and being eaten) in Japanese cuisine! I freak out American friends by not just eating my shrimp tails, but asking them if I can have theirs too if they don’t want them.

They can, but by that point several years worth of additional damage will have been done.  When you’re in a hole, the first step to getting out is to stop digging.  This policy change is the equivalent of committing to dig the hole even deeper, which means the next administration will start out that much further

Sorry, I missed the date -- this story is being pushed in the top banner for some reason.

This may come as a shock to you, but time travel is not presently possible, so correcting race and sex discrimination can only be made on a prospective basis.  If a company’s recent hires are more diverse, it’s intellectually dishonest to attack them for a lack of diversity by using old employment figures.

WWF already recognizes “ew” if I remember correct.  Not “zen” or “OK” though, much to my annoyance.
