Psychology is a soft science. The DSM is relied upon by the APA, the psychiatric bunch with actual MDs. If psychologists use it that’s great but I doubt if they understand it.

If you disagree with the DSM, that’s your right, but it doesn’t mean your’re correct. It’s deemed authoritative by the AMA, and everyone else, for a reason.

Make sure you read his response where he acknowledges what you’re too afraid to:

Because if you were, say, schizophrenic and believed that your cat was talking to you, I would not humor your illness by leading you to believe that your cat truly was talking to you. Because that is not the case.

There is a large number of procedures performed that are extremely risky that are perfectly legal to do. As one example, Ben Carson, who you know, gained his fame as a neurosurgeon for such a procedure. Gender reassignment surgery isn’t such a procedure.

Again: No, it is not recognized as a mental disorder.

Sorry, the AMA has never not deemed gender dysphoria a mental condition.

I don’t care what flag you wave around. It’s your life, wave whatever flag you wish.

Every physician that utilizes the DSM, or simply recognizes it as authoritative, would also be labeled as a transphobe by you.

They don’t suffer anything. They know, and accept, what sex they are. People that do not suffer from gender dysphoria. That’s what distinguishes gays from transsexuals.

Sorry, but you can keep your soft-science garbage to yourself. Psychologists are only pyschologists because they couldn’t score on the MCAT.

Now you do.

No. You wrote “homosexuality was a mental illness until you felt it wasn’t” when I didn’t have any input into whether it was characterized as a mental condition or it wasn’t. I’m not all-powerful and don’t personally decide what is, or is not, deemed a mental disorder.

Well, if people smell something then it’s coming from themselves or those near them as smells aren’t transmitted via the internet.

I didn’t make the determination one way or the other.

The answer to both those questions is “yes”. If you find that interesting, that’s great. Gender reassignment surgery is neither as risky as any of those procedures nor as difficult to successfully accomplish.

You’re not holding me up to anything because I sincerely doubt anyone’s reading this far. To the extent they do, all they have to do is choose to do what you won’t - Google “Gender Dysphoria” and they can learn that you would rather ignore the truth than accept it.

It was once upon a time, and I’m sure you can find some that still think it is, but it’s not a mental illness recognized by the AMA or, to my knowledge, by psychologists or anyone else.

Ah no. I argue with this guy all the time. No one’s reading this far at all. I’m amazed you made it!

Let’s see - bariatric surgery is no picnic, complex spinal fusion is awful and probably does more harm than good, total hip replacements will change your life in a big way, etc.
