I think the difference is that their appearances are logical and natural. It makes sense that the same squadrons that compose the Rebel Alliance’s main fighter force that participates in the Battle of Yavin would be the people involved in a major battle just weeks or months before that event.

Believing that the government should preserve their multimillion dollar beachfront property at tax payer expense, without granting the public an iota of benefit is about the most Republican attitude imaginable.

I mean the central fact remains that Obi-wan lies to Luke’s face about the identity of his father and Darth Vader. To suggest that wasn’t manipulative is very, very difficult to explain, not least for the fact Luke doesn’t even ask about Vader. Obi-wan volunteers that lie himself, after Obi-wan mentions he knows

If Lucas didn’t intend to write Obi-wan as a manipulative morally gray character, it doesn’t mean he isn’t depicted that way.

Yes, Obi-wan was a clear ret-con. But you can’t analyze how a character should be perceived within the context of the story, based on why the character was written that way outside the context of the story.

If 90% of your job can be replaced by AI, they will cut 90% of the workforce and automate the 90% that can be done without.

Also, the story structure makes clear that Yoda and Obi-wan shouldn’t be taken as gospel in understanding what is “good.”

A sin of omission after having your best friend murder a bunch of people and become a personification of evil? Understandable if you find it a very difficult topic to talk about.

I tend to disagree. Even in the OG series, you can make a pretty strong argument that Obi-wan and Yoda are highly manipulative, and are kind of moral gray figures even if you accept the idea that they have what they genuinely see as the greater good of the galaxy at heart.

Hey this is a pretty cool painting of Jesus It’ll cost you just $450M to hang it in your dining room. At least if you want the original version painted by some guy named Davinci.

It only makes the whole thing feel more vapid when you can watch Godzilla Minus One instead, and see what a really good Godzilla movie can look and feel like.  Produced at like 1/12 of the budget.

It’s really crazy they made this movie for $15M. It’s like as a proportion of overall budget, literally less than 5 minutes of Star Wars: The Force Awakens or Jurassic Kingdom, but a better film than either by a country mile.

How weird when a POC reacts offended when someone calls them a Karen.

Apologies in my infinite free time I didn’t track down the original research paper, and simply commented on the contents of the article I was commenting upon.

Stretchable latex Hugh Jackman head with insertable open mouth.

Ancient and medieval medicines are a combination of stuff that worked surprising well, and some really counterproductive treatments. Some herbal remedies and healing practices were astonishingly effective.

Really cool paper, thanks again for the link.

Idk what the stats are, but fwiw, I’ve had my Z Flip 4 since Dec. 2022, and my screen has been fine with zero issues. I really like it.

Check out Blind Prophets comments to have a primer on how to have an intelligent discussion on this topic, where they kindly pointed me to parts in the research paper which literally addresses the points I raised.

TY for the link--missed that.  I’ll give it a read tonight!
