Yeah, $40 was liike late 80s, very early 90s. I remember it was like $50 for a short while before things bumped up to $60 by the late 90s I think? Then it stayed $60 for like 20 years.

median income, adjusted for inflation, is up very slightly from 1990.

$60 in 1996 is $117 today.

When I was a kid in the early 90s, games were around $40.

I was a big fan of NBA 2k series right up till about 2k16. I didn’t mind giving them my money every year, because i got so much enjoyment and gameplay out of it, even if it wasn’t that different year by year, it felt worth it for me to reward the devs.

Every time someone claims that JRPG turn based combat is outdated, I’m like so Persona 5 certainly f’d up by having turn based combat huh.

The Godfather novel is interesting at places, but disorganized with lots of superflous threads and storylines that don’t really impact the main threads of the story (there’s a whole storyline about a woman who’s vagina is too large that seems to have almost nothing to do with the main plot).

Osamu Akimoto’s KochiKame isn’t well known in the US, but it kind of sets an impossible standard. It was hugely popular and ran for 40 years, weekly on Jump. It’s famous because it was not only consistently good, but also because it never took a week for it’s entire 40-year run, eventually producing 201 volumes.

I dunno, while I hate slideshows (especially without any commentary), I was probably more interested into who came in last than who came in first.

To have a sane workload, weekly mangaka really should be hiring like a dozen or more staffers, not like 5 or 6.

I mean, the alternative is the safety procedures have a giant gaping dangerous hole that can result in someone sucked into an engine without breaking any regulation.

Yeah, I had kids 4 year ago. The last time I had time to play console games was... 4 years ago. Free time comes in spurts and in very short intervals for me. 10-20 mins tops.

I interpreted that line completely differently. In the original FF7, during the original Nibelheim incident 5 years before the current events, Cloud catches up to Tifa and Sephiroth in the reactor right as Sephiroth injures Tifa and she falls to the bottom of some stairs.

On what rational basis do you believe you can assign value to work? You say entertainment lacks value.

OK, but lots of people are willing to pay lots of money to watch the NBA, through cable subscriptions, streaming fees, and ticket sales.

Why is your opinion on “value” worthwhile listening to?

So your argument basically boils down to a labor theory of value.

So you think it’s unfair that Lebron makes $35M a year, while his teammates have to suffer by with a $1M salary? I’m not really buying that’s exploitation, just Lebron being a lot better at basketball.

I mean, does Lebron James really exploit anybody to earn his money?  Of all the multimillionaires, sports athletes seem like the purest expression of self reliance.

Japanese dude here. You have to understand that Japanese people are really into a lot of Japanese series that have never seen the light of day in the US, or are very niche.

The monkey JPGs are priceless though.
