Thanks for the thought! I would love to, but I don’t have time to generate stories at the required pace. I definitely want to write though, both about my time in LBST, other racing experience, and the automotive repair industry. I’ll ping you when that happens.
I hope he applies, and if so please consider AndySheehan-StreetsideStig. He’s been turning out some cool stuff lately, among other Opponauts.
I fondly remember your line “You are describing a cloud. That is literally a cloud.” Where are you writing now?
Or we could, you know, teach them how to drive, which we historically suck at. Why the fuck is this cross posted to jalopnik?
Justice is served, this is good COTD.
“Racing Legend” is being a bit generous here. “Rich guy who dicked around in racing for awhile” is more apt.
Something something Ferrari something build airplanes.
One of the greats, gone too soon. Race in peace, man.
ShaneMorris needs COTD, not only for the apt description of the car, but because we all know a Marcus. Make it so, esteemed leader.
I have to thank you for brightening my otherwise shit morning with this and your original post, because I have a buddy named Rob who meets your descriptions of Marcus nearly perfectly, and has a heart of gold. Indeed, we all know a Marcus/Rob. Thanks for the laughs.
Out of the gray for a sensible response to a clickbait article.

I’ve had a few myself.
This was not always the case, and that’s my point.
I’ve been working on European cars for 20 years, and this is not true in my world. I routinely have to tell owners of less than 10 year old VWs, BMWs, Mercedes, and Audis that repairs will approach or exceed the value of their car, and that I do not recommend they fix them. But the older models keep on trucking, and…
This, exactly. I made the point in my post to David that it’s a safe bet your mechanic hates cars too.
The E46 is at least courteous enough to just break the pump shaft with no warning, so you know it’s bad.
In fairness, it’s a pretty safe bet that your mechanic hates cars too. Most newer cars aren’t really designed to last, let alone be fixed. Throwaway culture as applied to automobiles.
Nobody yet? Really?
