I don’t think PCs are any more of a commodity now than they were 30+ years ago. The biggest factor that makes people upgrade their computers is that the technology was marching ahead so fast and they wanted to keep up with what their computers could actually do for them.

FYI: plenty of used EVs to get cheap. Also, assuming fully paid off mean they may be over 5-6 years old, you could get a much newer car with a longer life, so it’s not just throwing money away.
