Right, but L3 charging stations are so expensive, I think that even if what you’re predicting actually happens, it’s going to be a VERY long time.

The cord should be user-replaceable. In fact, it should be just be like the 120v cords that come with EVs now: one end plugs into the outlet and rthe other plugs into the car with all of the energy management hardware built into the car rather than in external charging stations. It is more parts that can break, but

He never cared about the environment. He wanted to create fear to help sell his products. He says he wants to make affordable products for all, but the cars have never been really affordable, at least not as affordable as he could make them if he ditched all the self-driving tech and R&D and didn’t insist on shoving

How much longer does it take when you factor in the drive to/from the gas station? It only takes me less than 20 seconds of additional time to fuel my car because I just plug it in when I get home.

How long will batteries last being charged up that quickly? Sounds like they’ll take quite a beating from it.

Agreed. a 30-50 amp 240v outlet isn’t any more complex and not much more costly than a 120v 20 amp outlet.

I assume you do have a mobile phone though, which could be charged in your car with a USB cable. And I assume your phone is a smartphone on Android or iOS, so if nothing else, you could use AA/Carplay for GPS that will be far better than anything built into the car at no additional cost to you.

Exactly. But it’s disingenuous to take part in the information put out by the owners of the website and deny them their method of compensation. They are working and deserve to be paid, and if you choose to partake in the site, then you should agree to that or just don’t use the site.

True, which is why in a separate comment I said personal finance should be a mandatory high school class. And I never said people who don’t go to college are dumb or should be left out. In fact, I believe basic college should be free for all who want it. A better educated society is better for everyone.

Agreed. My idea is to just get rid of charging stations and simplify with locked outlets. You can still L1/L2 charge with a cord you keep in your car and connect to the outlet. The outlet is unlocked either by an app or code you get from the app. A meter on the outlet measures how much energy you consume and charges

True. It would be a world of mostly compact sedans and minivans.

How about a gas generator that can power your house and charge your car in an outage.

agreed

He’ll just blame it on CA liberals somehow, just like their failing power infrastructure that they’ve purposefully made totally independent and therefore 100% their fault if it doesn’t work.

That’s mainly why he was so ineffective in his first term. A lot of the things he tried to do were blatantly illegal and got slapped down in court. The GOP just wasn’t prepared for him to actually win and had no competent people in place to tell him what to do or how to do it.

USB-C and wireless AA/carplay are nice extras.
