Is anybody buying it at all?

I don’t know how old you are, but maybe it’s a generational thing?  Banksy is an artist for millennials I think—cynical, satirical, and low budget.

Obviously you weren’t around to witness how good AVC commenters used to be at making puns

Actually (not arguing with you, just a fun fact) parodies don’t require permission from the original artists under US copyright law, so the fact that Weird Al even asks at all just shows how respectful he tries to be. And I think even with the Eminem thing, Al was still legally entitled to make the video after Eminem

I have a feeling a lotta Breitbart commenters float around here (or at least some of the sister sites) to see the same phenomenon lol

I think the first requirement of feeling stupid is being smart enough to know that you’re being stupid.

Interesting take... as much as I would hate to see Elisabeth Moss leave the show, I can’t say I wouldn’t be intrigued as fuck by a plotline like that!

Yeah, if they’re cool with killing a potentially-fertile 15-year-old with a good 20 years of child-rearing ahead of her, yet they bring Colony-bound, radiation-tainted former handmaids back **to the same district where they caused trouble to begin with** because they were short on fertile women... something doesn’t

Well, for what it’s worth, in the preview for next week’s episode there’s an exchange between Fred and Serena that involves Serena saying something like “why did you turn me in??” (I don’t remember the exact words, so take it with a grain of salt) and then she gets dragged away by Guardians. So maybe they *are* under

I think the dear leader is just “God” in this case. That’s not all that much of a stretch, I don’t think—look at Islamist countries: aside from a few strong-man dictators here and there, overall their political systems are based on the shared social understanding that God/Allah is watching every single thing they do,

I can’t remember if it was on this site or not, but I saw somebody point out that, even in the real world, women are statistically more religious than men, both in numbers and in devotion. (And as someone who’s lived in the South my whole life, I can confirm that anecdotally at least... I’d much rather cross a Baptist

Yeah, that’s what I took from it too.  I think Aunt Lydia is the most sincere character on the show, except maybe Eden.

Maybe it was the quantity of letters at once that made the difference, as opposed to the slow trickle of horror stories over time.  Kinda like how #metoo revealed nothing we all didn’t already know, but all of the sudden we couldn’t ignore it

In fairness to those people, at least they *did* come around at some point. There are plenty of religious parents who still don’t have enough compassion to change their minds when their relationship with their own child is on the line. Fuck THOSE people.

And the award for Most 2018 Put-Down goes to...

I don’t remember specifics, but I recall at least a couple of mentions in season 1 of rebellions taking place in North Carolina and maybe one or two other states. Not sure if that implies Gilead already has power there or if they’re working to get it, but they have at least mentioned non-Massachusetts goings-on before.

I also felt really bad for the handmaidens who were on the upper level of the new center; you could see their bodies being thrown once the explosion happened, only the handmaidens on the bottom got to escape.

If there’s one thing I’ve taken away from this show, it’s that Aunt Lydia has the power of omnipresence. So maybe that means there’s more than one version of her running around NuBoston and the explosion at least killed *one* of her?

Read it after Season 1 aired; can confirm there’s no Aunt Lydia backstory. I think the only backstory the book gives that the series hasn’t touched on (except a *little* bit a few episodes ago) is June’s mom. She was pretty interesting from what I remember, so I hope they provide some more flashbacks to her at some
