You're not wrong, but casual content in this game has such a low bar that you don't have to have BiS to pass nearly everything. My free time has evaporated in the wake of my first child being born and yet I have no problems staying geared enough for the endgame.

As far as FFXIV is concerned, raids are your best bet for dad builds. For about an hour of work you can roll on gear or tokens for gear that is more than sufficient for endgame PVE content. It won't be best in slot, but it’s a good alternative of you don’t have time to farm endgame currency or commit to a raiding…

In Final Fantasy XIV, many unique pieces of gear are locked to dungeon drops. So if you want that killer-looking jacket to complete your outfit, you may need to farm a particular dungeon over and over again due to multiple layers of RNG.
