Rhetorical question. Google search shows only average reliability as of 2017. (not going to look really hard for 2019 stats)

what else would he be driving

Putting different bodies on the same platform is a good idea; just don’t make them so ugly they’re repellent. Musk can make a design statement without it looking like an 8th grade doodle of a stealth fighter.

does not *directly* deprive the airline of anything

It’s an analogy. It doesn’t have to be perfect to be logical.

You know those brawls people get into over Black Friday deals that result in the police arresting people?

I would never pay for another first class ticket if I knew that I could get one just for being a rewards member.

Is there a part of the world where first class seats are sometimes empty? I live in Chicago and travel frequently for work and have literally never seen this. Any first class seats that don’t get sold will go to one of the dozens of people on the upgrade list.

You can see this actually happen when MLB teams offer tickets at a major discount and the season ticket holders grouse that it devalues their seat.

Correct. In a world where the standard rule is “every empty seat is a free for all after takeoff” there will be melee near first class as people try to nab the empty seats, especially on long-haul flights, resulting in fights and inevitable delays/diversions (beacuse you know we can’t have nice things).

Fewer people will pay for the higher class, or use miles/cash to request an upgrade, if they know there’s a chance they could get it for free. That appears to be the airlines’ rationale.

I think it would look ridiculous mounted vertically.

Genesis (and Korean cars in general) interior materials are always really nice to look at and slightly disappointing to touch. The switchgear is good, especially as this doesn’t appear to have a touch screen, but the dash and the seat leather and stuff falls just a hair short.

Yeah, this is a Genesis-only platform.

Corny.

Unlike the Telluride... this is a RWD platform and materials are going to be real and higher grades. Not even the powertrain is shared so basically nothing mechanical is shared.

I’m pretty sure it’ll be fine. All manufacturers do this now.

Show shadowy press photos to get people (like me) to write about it. Then they show the car in more light to get people (like me) to write about it again. Then they show it to us in person, then we get to drive it for a week. That’s like four different

“GV80 allows us to expand our definition of Athletic Elegance design language to a new typology, while retaining sublime proportionality and sophistication of form,”

Between this and the Lincoln Aviator, I think I’d be spoiled for choice if I were ever in the market for these things.

I mean... What else would you like him to base his opinion on at this point?
