The mechanism of having a giant, nearly unkillable monster burst out of the walls at random points in the game was such a great idea for the series. RE4 definitely legitimately unsettled me, playing as an adult. The opening scenes in particular, when you're in the village. In it's time, definitely the scariest. I made it through the school and the first boss, but it was like pulling teeth. I think I made it through the hospital section and then died on the giant bat/moth/whatever it was and didn't have enough ammo. I gave up at that point, but it was a great journey.

I'm sure there are counterexamples, but most of the community episodes with a guest spotlight ((Betty White leaps to mind) weren't very good (though I really liked the "wedding" sequence of that episode), so I'm not very enthusiastic at this point.
