But it is, and I hate to bring in other fandom metaphors, the Rise of Skywalker to DS2's The Last Jedi. It so overcorrects and compensates for the perceived problems of DS2 it becomes a weird appendage extending from DS1.”

As video game narratives get more complex and fleshed out, I’m sure decent adaptations will arise. The problem is that most of the adaptations we’ve had so far are based on 90s properties that have about as much back story as a board game.

Sure but it’s a bad comment section. Old AV Club comment section was the best of the best. Nearest I’ve found these days are in some medium-sized subreddits, but it’s still not the same :/

Ah bummer...when I saw “tower defense” I thought it might be a singleplayer game. Love Magic lore, but so tired of the competitive aspect of it. Guess this is another pass from me until the MMO comes out (in like 20 years).

Exactly...I don’t understand why people call TLJ a brilliant subversion, when it subverts itself into being just an ESB retread. If there was an earlier script draft where Rey and Kylo join forces, THAT would have been a cool new direction. Instead Johnson just shuffled the Hoth scene to the end of the movie and then

They had everything they needed to make a great trilogy: great actors, amazing special effects work, a gigantic pile of cash. All they needed was the vision, and sadly it just wasn’t there. I honestly don’t think the Disney juggernaut is capable of producing anything visionary anymore, but here’s hoping someday...

Obviously the people bitching about game prices are not the same ones shelling out to see movies in theaters (see also: buying overpriced drinks at starbucks, the other common example). Some of us are just CHEAPSKATES who don’t like to spend on anything.

And yet saved in the end! Can’t wait to see how Amazon treats it.

Yeah...it’s pretty baffling. That was a movie I really regretted spending the 90 minutes to watch. Guess it just wasn’t for me.

Mid-2000s is still my internal reference for when “now” is, so I’m constantly thinking the 80s were only 20 years ago etc. Getting old sucks.

Gosh I remember being jaded and annoyed by the endless parade of sequels and reboots back when Fury Road came out (and obviously its even worse now). I grudgingly watched a library dvd of it on my laptop with headphones on, just to kill a few hours. Dear god, it was a revelation even in that setting. Pretty much

The service seems pretty meh in general. Having all the simpsons in one place would be great....if they had actually presented them correctly. None of the other content seems worth the subscription price now imo. But considering how lackluster their competitors have been recently too, probably worth the occasional

A lot of the DVDs aren’t available on amazon currently... i mean, obviously we’ve had literal decades now to acquire them, but it’s a little odd that they aren’t available. Can buy the seasons digitally at $20 a pop through amazon though.

We’ve come full circle I guess...or full rectangle, I dunno.

Commenting from years in the future but...wanted to chime in about the CG. Agree with OP that the effects often look “cheap”...probably because they are. SyFy clearly didn’t have the budget of a movie or even a sci-fi show from a bigger network. But they lack in polish, they more than make up for in imagination. The

Right...this sounds like a developer I’d never want to support and a game I’d never want to buy...but just move on people. Harassment is never called for.

Way late, but this is interesting info (and I look forward to future seasons that you all have probably already seen)! S1 has been really good from a visual and character level, but kind of all over the place in terms of plot arcs. Knowing that he retroactively made this to lay the groundwork for the real story makes

See that’s a movie that deserves a remake because (hope I don’t get crucified here), the original Mulan was pretty flawed and story could be told better.

Great review by her...had me verging on tears by the end damn it. If anyone hasn’t revisited 92 Aladdin by the way, definitely do it. It’s kind of generic Disney in a lot of ways, but Williams blows the entire thing apart with his presence. Just an unforgettable performance.

Dumbo was so forgettable that IV forgot to even list it among the other tired remakes.
