I would have cried at the Ravager funeral if the movie hadn’t been a complete mess and had actually earned the emotion. Instead they went straight for the cheap tears.

I completely agree with you. Arrival is an overwhelmingly beautiful movie. It also helps that it came out at a really stressful time when the message of the movie was needed.
