Of all the things you can be compelled to purchase in our stupidly consumer-driven culture, books are one of the few things that can expand your world a little bit. So maybe keep the books.

Yeah, but your advice is thoughtful and sensible so clearly you aren’t a blogger.

I could’ve been clearer: Original in the sense that the reporter gathered the quote as apposed to citing another source or aggregating from many.

I said nothing specifically about Donnelly or Mccaskill. I don’t think they have anything to add.

You don’t know what the reporters asked. You only know what the politicians said in response.

“What does it add to ask them again?”

I’m still happy to see King suffer some consequences for his racism. It may be self-serving by the GOP but i’ll take a good outcome from a group of shitty people over doubling down on racism (again.)

“people are entering the parks, leaving trash everywhere, overflowing the public toilets and fighting over campsites”

this whole thread was a good read.

Chick-fil-a’s most popular food must be hate. *shits pants*

The new Call of Duty-inspired active shooter drills will surely be successful!

You would be fired for having closed beer at your job? (I guess if you work in a school that’s normal.)

I am aware of how politics works (see my sentence about compromising with people’s lives) but I’m also firmly anti-authoritarian. So, yeah, I understand that politics in practice is unsavory but I don’t think we should openly cheer for intimidation.

I didn’t say intimidation doesn’t work. Whether it is effective or not doesn’t matter too much to me. I don’t want politicians I agree with to use intimidation. I don’t want authoritarian tactics used to support things I agree with.

I’d rather deal with a dysfunctional gov’t that isn’t based around dictatorial authority and intimidation but that’s just me.

...this doesn’t sound like an effective way for a democratic government to work.

It’s politics as religion. Find and anoint a savior that can be supported uncritically. It’s really uncomfortable to watch as someone who just wants an accountable leader who cares about her/his constituents and about leading most effectively.

I think this is a really strong list but I don’t see nearly enough “HamNo”

Oh come on, I expected better than that.

If this website didn’t exist, I wouldn’t have a sad little axe to grind, now would I?
