Perhaps "racist" was the wrong word. Southeastern Virginia had the greatest amount of racial tension than anywhere I've lived. That includes Michigan, California, Texas, Arizona, Florida, Alabama, and Tennessee (plus Korea, Germany, Egypt, and Saudi Arabia). It was just a constant tension between blacks and whites.

This is fact. Watching Iverson and and Tony Rutland (played basketball for Wake with Tim Duncan) play basketball and football at Bethel high school was a joy. The basketball box scores were must-viewing, starting when they were freshmen.
