Yes.  This is when Disney decided that people simply hated movies about Mars, so it couldn’t be in the title.

I guess I’m in the minority, but I thought the John Carter movie we got was really good, in spite of the title character being horrifically miscast.

I would bet real money that this is exactly what they’re going to do.

More to the point, most non-murder crimes go uninvestigated.

That cancellation was a bummer.  It also kind of sucked that the title character was in costume maybe 5 minutes total the entire last season.

Fair enough, I guess my overall point is “sometimes an auteur’s personal vision is shitty and dumb.”

I mean, I think we’re saying the same thing.  The first movie was boring and dumb, and he’s gone to the same well.  But, the well is obviously important and interesting to him, and these movies represent a very particular personal vision of his.  That’s an auteur, as I understand it.  The point is, auteur doesn’t

Isn’t it?  Most of the complaints seem to boil down to “Why is Cameron spending all this time making these dumb blue cat movies that no one wants to see!”

It’s weird that people on here moan about the death of the auteur while simultaneously complaining that James Cameron has made a movie that’s really personal to him and his vision.

Yeah, but why DON’T they make the whole plane out of black boxes?

“Then find another, cheaper assassin to kill the first one so we don’t have to pay as much.”

I assume residuals are paid on a per-stream basis, not just because the thing is sitting on a server, right?  Assuming that’s true, if your only expense is residuals, you’re incurring it because people actually want to watch the content.  And if you remove content people want to watch, then you’ll lose those

If she had a pimp, he would be the one hassling Ethan for her $1,300.  So, either he’s not a pimp, or he’s a super shitty one who doesn’t perform his one function.

Outsiders stumble into weird old customs in isolated areas. Shirley Jackson’s “The Lottery” (well, here, it’s just the reader “stumbling across” it) Wicker Man. Midsommar.

I’m in the minority and recognize that I’m probably missing something, but Barbarian didn’t work for me in any way.  I know you have to accept a level of stupidity in horror movie characters, but Barbarian was a bridge too far.

I was entirely unaware of Strange World until I saw the articles about what a flop it was.

I don’t think they had any sort of “epiphany” about how drugs should be handled in general; it’s just that the drug abusers these days are white.  That’s when “the war on drugs” morphed into “a health crisis.”

And Willow was named after a type of tree.

Tom Cruise crashed an experimental plane going some ridiculous times the speed of sound, and walked into a diner without a scratch.

Yes, it’s only notable for how thoroughly Bill misses the point.  I’m uncertain if Tarantino was putting his actual thoughts about Superman in Bill’s mouth, or if he was showing that a fucking sociopath like Bill could never get the concept of a hero like Superman.
