Gray as the Day is Long

Honestly, part of the issue is that things cost so much more now. When I first moved to NYC 30 years ago I was making around $45K per year as a paralegal (thanks to copious overtime) and was able to pay rent ($795 a month for an UWS studio), cable, landline, electricity and health insurance all without any parental

She does note that she goes to Whole Foods one day and spends almost $50 on groceries. So it does sound like she is paying for those herself.

I do anecdotally notice that millennials in my area spend far more money on rideshares/cabs/car services and meals out than my own friends and I did at their age.

Option B, mostly. Although there is a TON of pressure from social media to spend more money going out and doing things, because everyone else is doing it, and you didn’t have that (I’m either the tail end of Gen X or a really old Millennial, so I had it a bit, but NOTHING like today).

I’d totally read the Gen X money diaries.  But then, I’d read pretty much anything by gen xers because I feel like we are left out of so many things.

I am familiar with a young woman who was raised from Day 1 in the Hasidic community in Williamsburg and had to fight to get out. I’ve known her from the time from when she APPEARED to be happily married to where she is now, divorced and free, but pretty much banished from the community.

I actually worked in tech for more than a decade so I found the show hysterically funny and accurate. (Anyone who works in tech and tells you that things are greatly exaggerated on that show is full of shit.) Much of the humor for ME came from the digs AT Silicon Valley BY casting males and showcasing the many biases

I like the show, and the most recent season was actually better than the previous two, but jesus christ do they struggle to get good female characters on the show. Carla was one of the more promising ones and they lost her. Damn shame.

I expect asshole behavior from TJ Miller, and deep doucheyness from Middledick, but

It is literally impossible for a beverage to be both bitter and refreshing.”  Tell it to all the people (me included) who love IPAs and gin and tonics.

Thank you. Add a little to one of these, and I’ll be refreshed all summer.

I agree! A light, refreshing cocktail that has a beautiful color but isn’t cloyingly sweet? I’m in!

It’s okay Maria, all the more Campari and Aperol for the rest of us.

The brooklyn hassidic population owns huge swaths of williamsburg and yet live off government benefits. You also cant marry outside of the community so they have the highest instances of recessive genetic disorders of any population in the world. Renting from a Hassid landlord was the worst year of my life.

I just started reading Triangle: The Fire That Changed America, and the author discusses the differences between Eastern European Jewish women and Italian women working in the garment industry in New York in the early 1900s and 1910s. He said that, while both cultures deferred to the father and oldest son, Orthodox

This shit is sad, and way too easy to make fun of rural people for. Rural people, get with it and start voting properly. We libtard snowflake elites can’t do this shit for you.

I am like obsessed with that recent PNAS article about 14,000 year old bread. I have a friend who pestered the shit out of me about her fucking keto diet, which she based on some Netflix doc that mashes together Keto and Paleo. All they talk about is how humans have “only” been eating grains for 10,000 years and if

Rural communities really need the government; private corporations can make so much more money by serving urban populations. Given that, it’s immensely frustrating that rural states and rural parts of states consistently vote for people who want to prevent the government from helping them. Maine’s second district is

It’s never not funny when wet behind the ears college age bloggers in NYC pretend to understand how politics works nationwide (or even just 10 miles outside NYC).

What a stupid fucking article (filled, of course, with dumbass typos because despite the fact that the masthead for this site has like a dozen editors, no one can be bothered here edit a fucking thing).
