No it didn’t. Rey’s parents wasn’t a mystery. Fans made it one but even Maz told Rey that Rey already knew the truth. They had already pretty much told us the secret wasn’t going to be a big deal. All the hype for Snoke was also fan made, TFA never build him up as some major villain. He was always just the emperor…

That’s so funny—it made me want to go back and replay KotOR II for the umpteenth time, and is probably the most ‘for me’ Star Wars movie there’s ever been.

I own, but still haven’t played KOTOR 2. Apparently the community mod for the ending is better than the original.

This remains my biggest issue with TLJ, and is what makes me so surprised to see an article like this. I found TFA disappointing, but I find it more disappointing now, because its failures were addressed by TLJ in dumb ways.

Agree to disagree. Personally, after watching TFA I didn’t care that much about Snoke. I didn’t need another Emperor figure hanging over this movie’s Vader. Ep 9 is going to be like what if Vader was in charge but also slightly more unstable.

Exactly. I don’t have the allegiance to the OT that some fans do, but I grew up reading enough of the EU novels and playing the roleplaying D&D-esque SW game enough to really get a feel for how the force takes shape in different characters and in different settings.
