For the hybrid? A pancake motor in place of the flywheel, a la Vonnen’s “Shadow Drive” arrangement in the 911. Allows for a smaller ICE and a manual transmission. Locate the batteries below the (smaller) fuel tank and don’t add too many of them - it shouldn’t need a huge battery.

Exactly - if FOM wants to make an argument on cost grounds I can see the rationale. But on safety? No way. Humans are statistically going to make more errors than sensors, and it just adds to the workload of the release crewmember now, further increasing the likelihood of errors, and making the pitstop more dangerous.

That’s an enforcement issue. Which is separate to the regulation issue - those vehicles are likely required to comply with the regulation mentioned in the article, but if the regulation isn’t being enforced that’s a different problem.

It’s interesting - I agree completely about the look of the car (it looks like a “movie” F1 car), but that’s exactly the reason I find it dull. I like F1 cars to look engineered rather than designed, ugliness and all.

I dunno. It kinda looks like an F1 car illustration on an off-brand Hot Wheels to me. The current cars look ugly, sure. But they also look purposeful. This looks less so. I'm looking forward to the teams making them uglier.
