True. They've leveraged every means at their disposal for a long time. As another reply points out, they've had the same goal going back to the southern strategy. Then there was Reagan's courting of the religious right, and on and on it goes.

Plus he's the one without any money this time.

They’ve been doing this in earnest since at least the 2010 midterms when they went nuclear on gerrymandering. Now they’re just trying to hold on to power that by rights they shouldn’t have.

Considering the popularity of the GTI in the US, it always perplexed me that Hyundai didn't bring over it's own competitor in the segment.

Amen to that (both your points). Along with a lack of action on emissions reduction, the thing I despise most about our current government is their sense of impunity and their efforts to reduce oversight of their activities - the "efficiency dividend” bullshit they're pulling is shameful.

Exactly - even though I think our electoral process is among the best in the world, it could be even better. I don't necessarily like the results, and I think that financing laws are currently unacceptable, but the actual election process is pretty good.

Make Christmas Nightmarish Again.

I would hope that they don’t put up with that kind of chicanery again, though it’s difficult to enforce in real time. If it’s not an offence to attempt to deceive voters, it bloody well should be. The AEC looked pretty weak in their response - they should have been more forceful in their condemnation. I think they

That’s the real spirit of Christmas - not fat jolly fellows in bright red suits, but organ-stealing witches and demon-goat sexual predators!

I want to make a joke about you liking the AEC before it was cool :)

I was countering the OP’s contention that “Hyundai N seems to be mostly body kits. I’m going to call it what it is - pretend performance.”. The i30 N was the first car from the division, and the video shows that they're serious about building a real driver's car.

The Veloster N is pretty similar, from my understanding (though I’ve not looked into it too much - like the i30 N in North America, the Veloster N is not available in Australia). I was countering the OP’s contention that “Hyundai N seems to be mostly body kits. I’m going to call it what it is - pretend performance.”,

Righto. That's a shame, it's a good little car (though not exactly exciting in standard form).

Fair enough - I didn't look into it at that level. The wonders of a federal system, eh?

AMG is a proper performance division (to the extent that there are a couple of models that are only available as AMGs). Mercedes also uses the name for performance and appearance packages you can choose as options for normal cars, but that’s the same as N-Line for Hyundai.

It’s interesting that you don’t get the GTI competitor (the i30 N) over in the US. Do you get the standard i30?

Now playing

Do the Focus ST or Golf GTI count as performance cars? Because the i30 N is probably more capable than both of them.

I think you’re right - the N division is a proper in-house performance arm, akin to M, AMG, NISMO etc.

No worries.

I only just found it out - I was actually going to make exactly the same comment as you, assuming that felons would be disqualified from running. Then I had a quick look, and lo and behold, you can still run if you're a rich criminal.
