I’m reminded of the calls to primary Joe Manchin with a more progressive Democrat. Nobody to the left of Manchin will win a Senate seat in West Virginia. If they do successfully primary him, that candidate will lose in a landslide to a Republican.

Yep. The brain has a strong desire to make things seem right or appropriate, or come up some bogus reason to explain something. We all do it to some degree or another. It’s a subconscious reaction that we can’t perceive, so we believe whatever our brain fabricated. Fascinating stuff.

Intentionally killing civilians to break morale is something we’ve only recently stopped doing. During WWII pretty much everyone was okay with firebombing civilians. The US actually built replica German and Japanese civilian housing (not factories) to determine the most effective design for napalm canisters.

Bingo. Once you eliminate the credible deterrent, nuclear weapons become useful again as a tactical weapon. The Russians could target a handful of naval facilities with small nuclear weapons and devastate the United States’ ability to project power.
