My kids knew about the election, but there was no outburst like that. Don’t live vicariously through your kid.

While I am sure there were a lot of people that voted for Trump due to some kind of racist nonsense, that wasn’t the only reason. I would bet it probably isn’t even the major reason.

I think polling just missed something that was lost in the Comey nonsense, and that is the projected rise in Obamacare. I have a lot of family in Michigan and Wisconsin. Anectdotal, but they were either going to stay home or vote Clinton. The second they saw the increases coming? Trump voters. Just like that. Never

This is one of the most level-headed responses I’ve seen coming from the left since this election was decided. As someone who votes primarily from the right, I really wish there could be more of this kind of dialogue (and the same goes with a couple people I kinja’d with yesterday - not everyone on the opposite side

Except when they aren’t. I know very few Trump voters, but for the few I do, they voted for him DESPITE his racist, sexist, etc., etc., comments, not BECAUSE of them. That’s how important other issues were to these people.

People that voted the man on the right President, grew tired of being called racist, homophobic, and sexist so voted the man on the left President. They were promised hope and change, got a lot of hope, and whole lot less change in their pocket. Some who previously never voted that did turn out for the man on the

The most bewildering thing is that they (liberals/democrats) thought that they could beat white middle-class Americans into submission by continually calling them racist the past 8 years because they didn’t support Obama and his policies whole-hog.

I think the divisiveness needs to end sooner rather than later. He’s clearly a man out of his depth. if we throw him a line maybe he can tread water. isn’t that what we all want? The hyperbole is even getting on my nerves and I not-so-gently chastised opposition co-workers for a similar response in 2008 and 2012. The

It’s not entirely why people liked him. His vote didn’t jump like Obama’s did compared to Kerry. He got the same number of R’s, even a little less than normally vote. The Supreme court was one of the many reason’s i know people sucked up and voted for him.

I’m a pinko commie liberal

It’s reassuring to see that we’ve voted in another man of color as president.

Whew, boy! One thing I’ve learned from the internet is how much white people hate to be called racist. Boy, y’all (I’m assuming you’re white, Sean Brody) really hate that shit, huh? Your response to this well-written commentary is “stop making me feel racist and maybe then I’d tell you why I decided to vote for the

The only people polls reflect are the people willing to take a cell phone call from a polling agency, and those people are almost as strange a bunch of weirdos as internet commenters.

No one told pollsters or newspeople they were voting Trump because to do so was to be deemed a racist.
The culture had decided this was the case.

You have to take this energy and be more compassionate. We are the liberals. Our first mission is to get back to what made us this way. Stop belittling southerners and conservatives just because they grew up in a different situation with different experiences. They have different values than us, and we have to stop

I learned that you are clearly a misogynistic misogynist if you think anything other than misogyny caused this misogynistic mess. Don’t criticize Hillary’s perfect campaign, misogynist! Misogyny.

Totally agree. I think Liberals need to take a long look in the mirror and think about one thing, arrogance. They have been so cocky and arrogant about this election cycle or the last two or three. It jumped up and bit them in the ass in a huge way last night.

They have been condescended to, called racist and sexist for the last 8 years. Weird they didn’t fall in line with the liberals.

You’ve done a great job here pointing out a phenomenon known as “point-and-laugh liberalism.” Maybe if the Democrats adopted the a policy of unconditional respect, one that was advocated by... what’s his name.... the old white guy from Vermont, we wouldn’t be staring at this goddamn travesty. These people are
