My sister is in her mid-thirties and still doesn’t know how to drive... We live in a sprawling city, too - not dense like NYC - so while there are buses to take you places, they take a VERY long time to get from point A to point B. We’re talking in the order of hours to get a couple of miles down the street. But you

The bit about having to plant the Switch next to a ficus had me giggling for several minutes at work - thanks Kirk!

I think it’s along the same lines as what I call* the magical foreigner effect. Tell someone something crazy and preface it by saying that wise[men, women, llamas] in [foreign country] and have been doing this for thousands of years (it’s always thousands of years), and they’ll believe it no matter what it is. It

I don’t play overwatch... but the first thing I thought when I saw the picture on the article was that she looked like she was wearing a Christmas-themed Ghostbusters outfit. No idea why, just did.

I instinctively cannot trust a bank that named itself after an improper fraction.

I think I had a high school class that covered it too. Anatomy and Physiology - although it wasn’t required besides counting as a science credit. Perhaps it should be....

Oh man, it totally is. Unfortunately, I live in probably one of the worst places for night photography - between the humidity and the city lights, it’s very hard to get anything decent. (Check out Florida on one of the light pollution maps. Even the darkest places aren’t really all that dark - I’ve never seen the

I’m no expert, but most of what my camera does (I have a Canon so not the same, unfortunately) is noise reduction and some color adjustments between the RAW and jpg version assuming I don’t use any of the special modes. Have you tried playing with the white balance? I would do that and perhaps playing with the colors

Another thing you can do, assuming you have a phone that supports it, is to get a USB OTG adapter and get an app that can drive the camera from the phone. My favorite is DSL Controller. It can remotely trigger the shutter, and you can even do fancy stuff like time lapses much more easily.

Wow, I seriously had no idea this is a thing. I wonder if these folks are aware that highly alkaline things are just as harmful as highly acidic things. Think bleach or drain cleaner. By their logic, if you drink that you’ll have super powers and live to be 175!

Yeah, these look way too heavy for where I live - it’s currently 84 F outside but sometimes it gets as cold as 40! Even on the coldest day those look like they might trigger spontaneous combustion.

I think the point is that such a fee to an executive is the injustice - precisely because they can probably raid their couch cushions for the money. They’re probably going to get multiples of that for their bonus next year.

Yeah, but we also have a president-elect who likes to repeat and generate conspiracy theories himself... I’m hoping you’re right, though.

They’ll surely just move on to another version of snake oil. Or, more likely, tell their followers to disregard the labeling if it comes up at all.

Yeah, honestly the only time I feel it’s appropriate to brag about something is in a job interview - and then it should be as matter of fact and straightforward as possible. I.e. “I have 5 years experience with Java; I worked on Project A & Project B and earned Reward C at my previous job.”

“Man, I never have any free time anymore. All those dates I’m going on are just sucking up all my time.”

I’ve always chalked it up to a reaction to the feeling of having wasted one’s money so they have to justify it to themselves and defend the purchase. I imagine that console fanboy-ism comes down to that as well.

I haven’t watched anime in years and one of the biggest reasons is this. Although I’m a straight male, I don’t find anime nudity to be a turn on so when the fanservice hits, it’s annoying as hell. The last series I watched was mostly a martial arts anime wherein female characters weren’t even scantily clad in general

I cringe a bit at things with hidden compartments for hiding “valuables”. Thieves are quite familiar with those kinds of hiding places and will look for them. The only safe place for valuables is in a safe that’s bolted to the ground (so it doesn’t just become a traveling puzzle box). How often have you rolled your

750 was a much better remote and I was mad they discontinued it in favor of the 650 with a firmware update to support more devices, especially after my 750 died (one too many falls courtesy of an ex).
