They need two more Senators for anything. And I strongly doubt Democrats will go after the Supreme Court. The general public simultaneously doesn’t understand how important the Supreme Court is, but do see it as symbolically important. So if Democrats reformed it, they would see it as an attack on the Supreme Court.

Exactly. It doesn’t matter how or why the money came in. The question that got asked is where did it go? If you are a charity, that’s pretty much the most important question all day, every day.
