1st Gear: Porsche branding genius is unmatched in this regard - when the secondary market is even more inflated than the new retail market, you know you’re doing something right. Until the market for used Porsches crash, getting a new Porsche at MSRP will be nay impossible.

The reason for these price increases is driven by end buyer flippers. If you truly want to own the car rather than flip it, you need to promise that you will re-sell to them when you’re ready to move up. Dealers make more money on the used market than on the new market so loyal customers who sell back their Porsche’s

Naah, I have Gen Z kids and they have little interest in driving while in high school - much less so than when I was in high school. They just assume they’ll Uber for the rest of their lives. My son is now in college and it was like pulling teeth to get him to prepare for his driver’s license test when he was a high

Sorry but I can’t trust Dodge to deliver on a first generation anything - this is a recall waiting to happen. Let’s check back in 6 years to see what’s really on sale after they’ve solved all the gremlins that surely will make the news.

RWD single motor Polestar 3 with 350 mile range for under $80K thereby qualifying for the $7,500 tax credit would sell like hotcakes in this segment. However, I’m more interested in the 3-row Volvo EX90 which starts at $79,000 although the 300 mile range is a bit disappointing for such a large battery (111kWh)

“billions coming back soon” is the critical factor here. To get to step 4, you have to stay in business that long - if Ford continues to invest billions for years without reaping the ROI for another decade (worst case argument) due to competion for scarce raw materials and limited production volume, what then? Run out

Cobalt Mining in the Congo? No bueno - pretty ugly with abhorrent labor violations

3rd Gear VinFast: I’ve test driven the VF8, nothing special. However, I’ve seen the VF9 (3 row SUV) and that thing looks legit awesome. They should’ve released that one first but then the rep told me it would likely be $79K which means they would have to produce it in the North Carolina plant to qualify for the tax

We need more 3-row SUVs (crossover, station wagon, WHATEVER, just need an EV alternative to my ICE minivan). Tesla should read the room and just convert the Cybertruck into something the size of a Suburban or Yukon.

Hey now, I owned a V6 RAV4 and it was a hoot - it was obvious to me when they were available that this would be the last time I’ll see something like that from Toyota.

omg THIS, Tesla’s Model 3/Y interior is so cheap it’s insulting given the prices they’re charging. For $55-$60K, the EVs coming out this year will offer alternatives for those who actually enjoy car interiors.

Totally love my Kia EV6 and looking forward to a 3 row SUV from Hyundai (Kia EV9 270 mile range is a bit disappointing so hoping Hyundai can get over the 300 mile mark)

I was hoping for more than 300 mile range with AWD. I’m used to my EV6 300 mile range and can’t go back so I’ll just wait.

It’s a huge question mark whether Rivian will be around in 2 years whereas Kia is part of Hyundai group - likely around for at least another decade. This alone makes Kia the better buy for me.

Editors normally the first to be fired - now replaced by ChatGPT. Next, the article will be written by it

This title made me not want to read the article, and after attemping to read the first sentence I gave up and now posting my comment.

My snarky reply,”Not my problem.” This article at best is a watercooler discussion, but absolutely nobody changes their life after reading it. Either you need a car or you don’t. If an article can’t get people to stop smoking to live decades longer...

Exactly, this move was too little too late! My order for the Model Y came up in November, Tesla reached out to see if I wanted to take delivery and I told them I wanted the $7,500 tax credit available in 2023 or let me push out the delivery contract to 2023, they said no, so I canceled and put a deposit on the Volvo

Tesla is not so arrogant anymore eh? Keep on raising those prices, Elon!

Railroad tycoons and oil barons never left - they just morphed into banks, insurance companies, etc. Capitalists can’t have it both ways - consumer protection is the opposite of profiteering is it not? I work closely with small business owners and every single one of them asks me the same thing: “How can I screw over
