On the cars I’ve had that had glued-in windshields, the exterior trim was purely cosmetic and didn’t really restrain the glass in any useful way. It’s just there to hide the gap between the glass and the A-pillars.

I’ve definitely found that getting my car out on the track has calmed me down in daily driving. I’ll still definitely exercise my car in the right situation, like enjoying a nice onramp, but I’m not super aggressive around corners and off the line anymore. It’s sort of the same thing as violent video games getting the…
I have no sense of nostalgia or affection for this car, but maybe that’s just because it was built the same year I was born. Either way, I’m not sure why someone would buy one of these in 2020. Like, what’s the use case? Are you going to restore it? Modify it? If so, why choose this as your platform to dump money…
BMW is designed to last until just before the lease is up - so you feel you have to get into a new one ASAP.
are you familiar with basically every single windshield, fixed side window and rear glass on any car manufactured in the last, oh, 40 years? because they are all just glued in place. the old rubber gasket with locking ring went away about then....
To be fair, what’s the point in owning one of these if you don’t rev it out?
Agreed. Although, I’m not even sure it’s worth $3k, maybe $2k to $2.5k if you ask me. It’s priced like a good condition example, with 100,000 fewer miles.
Scamming? It’s a service I pay for.
Amen to that. I bought a 128i a little over a year ago and the AC stopped blowing cold last month. And when I went to investigate that, I discovered that my hood no longer opens. It’s like the “gift” that keeps on giving.
I think this is an example of a car where you buy one for 2-3k and roll that dice that it lasts you for a few years, or 10 grand on one that has been loved and taken care of. There’s some good deals in that space between, but this isn’t one of them.
ND Tired, so tired looking. Almost sad. This car is worth 2k , mebbe 2.5k. It’s a beater, don’t pretend it’s anything else.
The real issue that this highlights about driving a Taycan (or other Porsche) is how much the world will delight in your failure.
I’ve met plenty of stupid people who are perfectly nice.
It’s about this:
First of all, what the hell did you do to an SSD to wear it out in a PC? Was it the only drive and you wiped it daily? Well...I suppose TRIM wasn’t really implemented early on.
Tesla fans: EVs are low maintenance and should last way longer than regular cars!
Normal manufacturers do not make cars that are intended just fall apart after ten years. They get superseded by the next great thing, sure. But they don’t have important components that are designed to fail in that time frame, aside from consumables—which the MCU is not. As I said, the average age of a registered car…
And this is why Teslas continue to sell better than pretty much all other EVs combined in America. They don’t just have the best range, they have the best charging network. Superchargers are reliable, fast, incredibly easy to use, and they have 8-20 chargers at each station (and sometimes separate stations for…
That’s a smokin’ deal. There’s no way I put that particular V8 in the car, but while the engine is out, I’d certainly be thinking about a lighter V8 swap. Or something else entirely... you’re not going to fit a flat-4 or flat-6 in this, so rule that out right away. Maybe a recent Japanese 4? 4G63T? SR20DET? K20A? Or…
Clarification: GM’s is targeting 40% of the one-percenter EV market.
