As is sometimes observed around here, it can be two things. They legit don’t want her money because slaves and she was also testing Roger. It’s just that she pissed him off so he refused her money less nicely than he might have done ordinarily.

In two seconds I thought of several exceptions to that rule. English rules of pronunciation are basically usless
Gelato is not an English word. The G’s in age, damage, and sufferage are in the middle of the word so aren’t really very relevant to this discussion..
Well, guess what? The only reason that the G is a hard “G” in Graphic is because it was followed by a consonant.
I completely forgot that Cosi existed. I’m pretty sure I used to go to lunch there sometimes in Arlington but I can’t for the life of me remember the experience.
No. And Jemmy isn’t going to inherit squat from Jocasta. Roger told her as much.
Jemmy is specifically NOT going to inherit Jocasta’s estate. That was point of the scene with Jocasta baiting Roger. It could be that Bonnet thinks he’ll be wealthy, but Bonnet is wrong.
Did you post this more than once? It was stupid enough the first time.
Right, old timey doctors did do that, but Claire doesn’t really need to. She’s been to medical school. She was a surgeon so she’s more than familiar with people’s innards and how they work. She can train Marsali as they go. She can draw pictures and buy anatomy books, which did exist. Claire would not steal the body…
I do like that. Hopefully that means a certain other character won’t make an appearance.
So I thought the whole subplot about hanging on to a corpse to dissect was ridiculous. First of all, when Claire was in medical school, her cadavers were preserved in formaldehyde. There’s no such thing in 18th century Fraser’s Ridge so she is basically hanging on to a rotting corpse and storing it in her root cellar.
I can’t remember which book it happens in. Is it book 5 or book 6?
One True Pairing.
That’s actually one my favorite (if entirely implausible) plots of the later books.
I hope so - she’s much more interesting than Lizzie.
The books are all-in with Brianna and Roger’s relationship. It’s definitely meant to be a OTP, like Claire & Jamie, though it took a while to get there.
I don’t think that there was an inheritance. I think she just loaned them some money.
The sets on this show have always been too fancy. Lallybroch isn’t supposed to be a mansion - it’s supposed to be a large farmhouse. The set designer, Jon Gary Steele is leaving the show but not before he could implausibly gussy up the Big House. It drives me apeshit.
So not a word about the oath-taking or the cross-burning? “Fiery Cross” is the name of the episode.
The flu shot varies in effectiveness from year to year because it’s different every year. It’s based on educated guesses about what flu strains will be around. You simply can’t make blanket statements like “flu shot is only o
