Have you been to a Cinetopia theater? There’s one in Beaverton, I think and there are several in Vancouver. Reserved seats, some theaters with wait staff and full dinners. Not to mention cocktails. The seats are ridiculously comfortable, too.

We have a local chain in PDX area like that. I love it.

I’m not boycotting Starbucks unless this keeps happening. The corporate office seems to have responded appropriately so for now they get.. well not a pass but another chance. From me, anyway.

It’s fine in other people’s gumbo - it basically cooks down enough that it just tastes like everything else. I don’t bother with it personally.

Shellfish isn’t a requirement for gumbo, but it does make it tasty. Dammit, now I REALLY want some gumbo. I’d even be delighted with your soup!

Well, you’re literally telling people that they shouldn’t have refreshments at a social(ish) event that traditionally involves refreshments. So I think this is a case where my particular snarky response is quite appropriate. If you don’t want to be accused of being a party pooper, don’t say party poopery things.

I can’t stand the smell of meat cooking in water so when I make stock, I put a lot of other things in there so my house doesn’t smell like boiled chicken for days. Thyme, peppercorns, garlic, bay leaves as well as the standard onions, carrots & celery.

Brown up that roux a lot more and serve the rice separately and you’ve practically got gumbo there.
