That thing was really, really terrible. The least they could have done was obscure the doll’s face so it wouldn’t be quite so obvious.

Another thing that I’m not sure is clear is that it isn’t the French treasure that they find. If there is a French treasure, it is gold bars, not random coins and jewels. Jamie no longer believes that Louis sent any treasure. What’s on the island is simply what Dougal and his ragtag band of Jacobites was able to raise…
Those later books are weird. There are parts of them that I really love and can read over and over again and other parts that I simply skip over. I skip entire chapters. I will say that the last two books are my favorite of the later books and even those require copious skipping on re-reads.
Get used to it. Most of the rest of the series is based in the North Carolina coast and mountains but the exteriors will be mostly shot in Scotland.
The second half of the book is bonkers. Just bonkers. If you think the show was ridiculous, if they had been completely faithful to the book, it would have 1) taken about 10 episodes and 2) not much more coherent than the show.
Outlander was renewed for seasons 3 and 4 last year. They’re in the middle of filming season 4 right now. They haven’t been picked up yet for season 5 but based on comments by Starz, I’d be surprised if they weren’t.
“2. So that hidden French treasure actually belonged to DOUGAL?!! Where did Dougal get an entire box of treasure that he did NOT turn over to Bonnie Prince Charlie, nor was ever even rumored to have until Geillis casually mentions that it was Dougal’s old family treasure plus MAGIC SAPPHIRES. That Dougal took and hid…
I’m guessing that our friend Kayla didn’t realize that Margaret was channeling (or whatever) Brianna.
“ As I said before, Claire and Jamie apart should have lasted a season,”
It wasn’t purely chance that had Claire wind up when she did - turns out Frank’s ancestor was within shouting distance of the stones. There’s a theory that says you can steer through time by thinking about someone in the time you’re going to. She was thinking about Frank, so she wound up in 1743, yards from Frank’s…
We don’t have weird motion effects, though. It’s just that the increased resolution makes images look more like they were shot on video. I dunno, they’re more real or something? Anyway, I’m mostly used to it now but it still bugs me every now and then.
Yeah, there’s some confusion. I meant that Geillis didn’t specifically remember Claire herself from their brief encounter at the stones, not that she didn’t have her suspicions about Claire’s origins.
They call him “Wee Ian” in the book and it’s to distinguish him from his father, also named Ian.
Ever since I got a decent high-def television, EVERYTHING looks like a soap opera to me.
But she didn’t recognize her as the person who went to the stones the night that Geillis left the 20th century. That’s what I was trying to get at. She might have recognized that Claire was from the future but she didn’t know - at this point anyway - WHO Claire was in the future.
I thought the tone of the scene DID reflect that he was about to be raped. He was terrified. He is also 16, though, so his lizard brain also caused his body to react.
Look, Ian is basically raped here. (At least he is in the book, I don’t recall how the show scene ended because I was so distracted and annoyed by the stupid blood bath.) It is only titillating because Geillis choose to make it so. She knows the effects that she is having on him and is reveling in it. The way to make…
And Ian is what? 16? I think the actor did an excellent job of portraying exactly that while being simultaneously terrified because that woman is clearly batshit. That scene was filmed exactly the way it should have been to depict what was actually happening.
Geillis recognizes that there is something off about her, but then so do a lot of other people - it’s one reason she had so much trouble. Geillis begins to suspect that Claire is from the future because of something she says in the thieves hole but she doesn’t know until she sees Claire’s vaccination scar. All she…
Geillis didn’t really see her in the 20th century. There was a blazing fire between her and Claire at Craig na Dun. So no, there was nothing to recognize.
