The bad answer I always hear is “well, cars are liquid and can be sold off when repossessed”, but the problem in 2008 is that defaults are much more correlated than thought and when a bunch of loans go bad, there aren’t enough buyers so the banks end up taking a big haircut.

Glad to see there is still no editing or proofreading being done before publishing articles at Jalopnik.

It’s not just David and Jason leaving man. It’s the broken comments system. It’s the constant listicles. It’s the lack of proof reading, the lazy reprints/links to other outlet’s articles, the ill advised hot takes like the “It’s okay people are robbing trains because they lost their jobs” article from a few weeks

I used to be all about flipping people off if they tailgated me or cut me off, etc. Now I just let things roll because in the last 30-ish years since I got my license road rage has gone from getting the bird back at you to this kind of shit. Ain’t worth it. Let the other idiot think they win - at least you can walk

Have you priced a brand-name used bike?  Unless it’s 25 years old they’re nearly as much as new.  I tried to buy a used road bike a few years ago and gave up.

I thought everyone already expected the entry level of anything that Walmart sells to be the sort of item you get either kids to outgrow or if you’re not sure the person you’re buying it for has any real intention of doing anything with it.

When you just need basic transportation, to get to a job you didn’t have last week for example, and the price difference at a bike shop is hundreds of dollars like I’ve seen locally, you’re getting a Wal-Mart bike and hoping for the best. I’d at least visually inspect it for grievous problems, like bad welds and backwa

COTD right there.

This is what happens when Zuckerberg or Musk or whatever other prophet of the Church of $$$ comes up with some new buzzword.  Zuck says “metaverse” and everyone who thinks there’s a dollar to be made starts churning out low-rent shit like this to get in early without knowing or caring that they’re just reinventing a

So...they’ve created Second Life, but somehow even lower quality?

I won in the fifth attempt, I just thought you kept playing. I seldom ever play a game on my phone and thought something like this would be fun in meetings that drag on.

A lot of those old browser games were fucking excellent, though, and would still hold up great if Flash hadn’t been killed. The games that keep getting cloned for years are those built around strong core elements that keep hooking people.

this is why I don’t care about buying sealed retro video games. if I’m buying an old game I’m buying it to play it so that seal is gonna get broken if it’s there.

There should be as much nostalgia for this type of car as for your first hangover.

if you could opt out of an anti-cheat there would be no reason to have an anti-cheat

She literally masterbates on her OnlyFans now, does that count?

I was at Pitchfork and the vast majority of people were NOT wearing masks. The majority of the festival staff and vendors were NOT wearing masks. The majority of attendees were NOT wearing masks. If the author attended the festival then they’re just lying about this. If they’re just taking Pitchfork’s word for it then

NIN actually canceled this appearance due to COVID-19 earlier this year. They canceled all appearances

Agree. Requiring masks outdoors at a show that requires vaccinations seems like a bit much

By requiring proof of vaccination or negative COVID test for entry, they’re doing considerably more than most large events are doing. 90% of sporting events don’t require that, yet every day this month we’ve had baseball and football games pulling tens of thousands of fans into similar environments.
