It’s definitely weird. I enjoyed the turn-based combat as much as the next fan but really I always played FF for the stories. And in that regard XIV is Final Fantasy as fuck so I'm enjoying it immensely. People out here acting like Square Enix took their dog out back and Old Yellered it.

Nobody should have to convince you.  It says “Final Fantasy” on the box. It’s Final Fantasy. Period. That you dislike it is irrelevant to that fact.

I don’t think he's entirely wrong on this. Like, yeah, there were legitimate issues with the game at launch. But I also know quite a few people personally that I know for a fact didn't play one second of the game that would anecdotally bash this or that aspect of the game. The bandwagoning was real.

Favorite design: FFXII

Also terrible: “a uBIsOft oRIgiNAl”

There isn’t enough money in the world that anyone could offer me to go to the bottom of the ocean. Fuuuuuuuck that.

Sony? Full of shit? Why, that’s preposterous.

Depending on your definition of “steamy” r/interestingasfuck might win this one.

Bringing Friends & Family stateside sure would soften the blow.

It’s always weird how fondly people remember the SP. That thing was personally one of the most uncomfortable to hold handhelds I’ve ever used. I got one, hated it, and went back to using my regular old GBA.

It could have but that stupid plot twist kills it imo.

What Netsubunkai said. Comparing it to DMC is like saying GTA and Gran Turismo are the same because they both have cars in them. Like, yeah, you drive cars in both but the execution is vastly different.

Based on nothing but this concept art I would have liked to at least found out firsthand.

They really should. I can’t think of any good reason for any game to not allow it.

Exactly. I tried so hard to get used to it but by the end of the demo I was still screwing it up. This is decades of muscle memory at this point. Hopefully they add some more options post release.

Not to mention they sprinkle a lot of the music from XIV into the score. I thought that was a nice touch.

Played through it last night and had a great time. They did a pretty good job at hitting the Game of Thrones vibe while still feeling like a Final Fantasy with all the grandiosity that comes with that.

Like, absolutely still going to buy it. But not having co-op was a pretty universal complaint with the first game. Super weird they didn’t add it. As long as they make the pawns less annoying this time around though I’ll be happy though. You can only hear “Wolves hunt in packs” so many times.

I hadn’t even thought of that. I can see why Mignona was recast but it’sreally strange that the entire cast was as well.

Counter-argument; it’s just a watch
