I had Wishville when I was a freshman in high school - solid stuff, even if it's weird to hear their older material and notice how occasionally spacey it got.

I think The Promise Ring kinda ran into that later - after they stopped trying to be Texas Is The Reason, their later stuff was basically power pop while still remaining 'emo'. Davey's lyrics and vocals helped with that.

That balance between self-pitying and cathartic is probably the best way I've ever heard anyone describe the best emo bands. Jimmy Eat World lost that later, and I feel like The Get Up Kids and Jets To Brazil (no matter how much I love them both) always had kind of a hard time finding that balance.

First song I ever played in front of an audience! Guess how well it went?

This is AWESOME. It doesn't have that weird meandering quality a lot of emo did, and this dude's voice owns.

Samiam is SO GOOD. I had "Clumsy" forever ago, and recently re-discovered "You Are Freaking Me Out" which is still pretty rad despite being Millencolin Jr.

"Never having seen The Promise Ring" is one of the biggest problems in my life.

I just saw a thing about that band and initially thought "wait, are they named after that French movie with the old cannibal Nazi or whatever?" and didn't recognize any of the bands their members used to be in. But now I'm more enlightened, and I thank you!

Never heard of these guys before today, but this is AWESOME. It's like a Thursday that isn't as cloying and/or trying too hard. I love this dude's voice.

I couldn't tell what percentage of Kevin Bacon and what percentage of Robert Patrick went into this guy's configuration.

Come on down to EZ HORNS!

They still make those?!

I feel like I'm getting to the point where I do it on purpose, though! I'm turning into THAT GUY! I told a friend of mine to screen The Spirit during his wedding reception and even I didn't know if I was kidding!

That was my problem. Despite Irredeemable Ant-Man being maybe the last comic I ever bought regularly, my interest in this hinged solely on Wright's involvement. That'll teach me to get invested in something!

The Other Guys puts him squarely in the rare camp of "director who can both manage comedy AND has a grasp of visual style" that Edgar Wright is in, although not by any means in the same league. McKay would do a fine job here that would probably capture Wright's spirit, if not exactly mimic what he would've done.

I like that movie. I feel bad about myself. :(

Why do there have to be doctors like Hank?

Alright, I can't argue the Jubilee one, but I've taken to defending her because I liked her in the arcade game and I used to love being THAT GUY. Point: Cranston!

I almost came here to post this same thing. Trusty Chords got me through probably the worst breakup I'd ever had.

I have several friends who are really into Ex-Men and whatever his Street Fighter ones were and I just…couldn't do it. The jokes were all pretty obvious, and even the ones that displayed a deeper knowledge of the character all came off as uninspired Facebook ranting. Maybe I'm growing weary of the internet trying to
