I get why manufacturers like the subscription model. They can double-dip their chips in the profit pool sauce.

I am not against subscription models. In some cases, when the consumable is media, it makes sense. Netflix and the like are good examples.

I wonder if we’ll ever see a day where we could own cars like we do

Geländewagen für alle!

In fact, just walk away from this one.

The tattered interior, unwashed doors and door jambs, aged wood trim, leather that hasn’t been cared for, and rust, are all signs that the juice isn’t worth the squeeze on this one.

It has already gone to $8k+, and I just don’t see that money in this car.

At $5k, and with

Not just you, I’d walk away from this car.

I’m having a hard time with any answer other than NP for someone who is handy with tools and electronic/electrical troubleshooting.

Solid motor and slushbox don’t hurt the decision either.

Twitter had values beyond profit? What were they? How is the world better, since Twitter, or other social media platforms came into existence?

I’m not sure Twitter is a good example, mostly because I’m not aware that they stood for much of anything prior to the change in ownership and leadership.

A company that has values and principles that guide its culture, likely have a more stable presence, even when leadership changes.

Principles and values, if created

Not a standard if not being used as a standard.

A standard is needed. I’m down.

Let’s be fair, at the end of the day, a corporation has a fiduciary responsibility to the shareholder. However, a business that operates on principles other than just financial metrics, has a better chance of elevating above your perspective. It seems like those companies are few, and far between, but they’re out

Could Twitter tech be repurposed to replace Kinja?

I don’t know if that’s the stance I take, but I do question whether or not some of these companies have any truly redeeming qualities, or reference points to where we could say that they have made, or are actively making the world a better place. I choose brands based on similar to criteria to how I choose friends. I

The rise of tech startups to supergiants is often fueled by financial investments that cut against the grain of the metrics that drive the business decisions of established companies.

The ride had to stop at some point for this company that is reliant upon a steady stream of inventory.

It was in part their insane

Could these be regifted? This would be a heck of a white elephant gift for some small coastal ally of the US.

I’ve not lived in areas where the cold affected my range that drastically. I can see how that would be a wet blanked on an EV/PHEV experience.

Yes, my only interest in this car would be the drivetrain anyway. A W8 or W12 Vanagon would be a fun union of two very different eras of VW design.

Here, here.

Rob is like the Obi Wan Kenobi of Jalopnik in that he’s our only hope.

The Lexus LM is a surprise to me. I hate it, but its a surprise.

All of the Fahrvergnügen of this car is in that engine and transmission. However, fahrvergnügen only goes so far when that mix of metals is stuck inside a lame Passat.

Astute observation.
