I don’t buy it but I recognize that personal experience is coloring my lens. My stepdaughter has wheedled almost $1000 out of her grandparents for prom this year, including the dress, shoes, corsage, manicure and pedicure, eyelash extensions, and whatever else she can justify.

It varies by state. Some do have the attending physician - my mom’s certificate does and so does mine.

Except, you know, reams of academic studies have shown that abuse is cyclic and many people have to make a concentrated effort to change something that was normalized in both their personal families and their communities throughout their formative years, if they can even recognize it as a maladaptive behavior.

Did you miss the rest of that paragraph or...? It doesn’t say that belt-spanking is okay. It says that these parents need more support and training instead of having their children forcibly removed. It mentions again later that Vega works in the system now as an advocate to train parents in better disciplinary options.
